Boom has solicited books that they never ended up publishing before; and remember, they wrapped up a four-issue arc of Incredibles on a cliffhanger, and cancelled the solicitations for the rest of the story. I wouldn't put it past them to do the same here.
Ending Darkwing at #16 would end it on an issue that still let's them collect it in a trade. Ducktales would then logically end at issue #4, with the crossover never hitting shelves. Of course, like I said before, following their publishing logic, they might do a 4 issue crossover that is two issues Ducktales, 2 issues Darkwing, giving them another trade in half the time. It still doesn't explain why they'd end the subscriptions though...even if the crossover is the last of the issues they'll be publishing, the Darkwing subscription could run through issue #18.
The idea that the Ducktales subscription is "sold out"...that just makes no sense unless you're cancelling the book and don't want to say it. You can't sell out of something you haven't produced yet.

You hit it right on the money ... the Boom forums say that's exactly what they're doing, with the crossover being in DT #5 and 6 and DW #17 and 18. And I'm sure a trade collection will be forthcoming. I assume then, that those will be the last issues of these last two Boom Disney books.

...and then we're back to where we were, in fall 2008. We DO have the Fantagraphics books of Gottfredson en Barks now, but again, no monthly titles.
BTW. When will DW 18 and DT 6 be published, then? The last books I'm aware of that will be printed are the Four Color Adventures and Walt Disney Treasury 2. It's a shame the vintage collections will get canceled after only two issues of WDC and two issues of FC. Especially FC, because the second book would include MM Outwits the Phantom Blot (OSI 16) and DD Finds Pirate Gold (OS 9).

Actually I think they're ending with #720; the material that was supposed to be in Mickey #310 was shunted to that last issue of WDC&S, and the content originally scheduled for issue #720 was just dropped. I just wish they put out one more issue of Mickey to complete the run in a clean way instead of splitting a story across two different titles. I know they're doing that with the DT/DW crossover, but I really couldn't care less about those titles at this point.

Seems like Boom has little further interest in things Disney; my guess is the latter (unfortunately). But FantaGraphics might be interested in doing more with classic Disney properties, if not publish the standard titles. Here's hoping.

If they ever go under, they'll probably issue a press release announcing Boom Studios 2.0 the same day they sell off their office furniture.

HOWEVER, they did apparently verify the names of several people let go from Boom! lately, and Aaron Sparrow is now over at APE Entertainment. My guess is they probably talked to Sparrow (or someone close to the situation) but pulled the article when there wasn't much online to substantiate it.
This, after Mark Waid's sudden exodus and many quiet cancellations.
Probably not the best way to "break" the story, but I'd wager that it's not all peaches 'n cream at Boom! these days.
