I guess that means if Duck Tales is released it's only going to be two issues. I hate to think that Boom Studios is going to cancel their Disney Comics. I hope another company picks up where they left whether it's Marvel or Fantastagraphics or someone else.

I imagine Ducktales would at least go to issue number 4...it seems like Boom does everything in 4 issue story arcs. Which is why some of their original content seems so forced. Every issue of Darkwing seems like it has a lot of filler, and then you get to part four and everything is shoehorned in. Same with the fourth issue of Rescue Rangers. I hope they do a better job with Ducktales, no matter how many issues we get.

Both Don Rosa's first volume of DD stories and "Walt Disney's Comics and Stories Archives Volume 1" have new covers on amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disney-Treasury-Donald-Duck/dp/1608866564/ref=pd_sim_b_1
http://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disneys-Comics-Stories-Archives/dp/1608866572/ref=pd_sim_b_2

While WDCS only has a different background, the cover for "Don Rosa" clearly showcases other artists' works -you can easily spot early Taliaferro there-. The description for the product itself still mentions it's a compilation exclusively focused on Rosa, but this makes me wonder...

What is the fate of the Four Color/Treasury/Archives? Hopefully they will still put out everything they've announced. Will the remaining issues of the classics that have been solicited still be coming out?

I posted a message to Boom's forum a few weeks ago regarding the books coming out - this is what Chip said.

Hey there,

I'm very excited about the WDC archives. Is the WDC Archive & The Donald Duck Don Rosa Treasury still scheduled to come out soon? Are you allowed at this point to give us a general month when we can expect it?

Thanks,

Soon. We had some production delays, but I've seen both books and they look gorgeous!

So, it looks like we'll be getting the DR book. According to everything I've seen the Don Rosa book is shipping next week. The WDC&S Archives should be soon too.

Unsure of the status regarding the Four Color book though.

As I understand it, their license doesn't allow them to promote single-creator collections like this as such; they're skirting very, very close to the edge of that rule with this, so I assume that featuring non-Rosa art on the cover is meant to give them a thin veneer of plausible deniability.

It's got nothing to do with a license. They just can't use Don's name on it without his permission (he had it registered as a trademark in Europe). And of course they wouldn't even bother to ask him.

Yes!

No!

Now people, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather like to see the FC and WDC archives than the DR books. Not that I don't like Don Rosa's comics (in fact, I like them very much!) but Rosa's work has been reprinted a few times already over the past few years. In Uncle Scrooge (Gemstone), Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (both Gemstone and Boom!), and if you're not living in America, there are some more Don Rosa collections in your country too. Look at the Hall of Fame series in Scandinavia, for example. My point is: Don Rosa stories, while fun, have been reprinted a lot. And I'm not saying I don't want the DR Treasury at all - it would be very nice to see a collection of Rosa's work in English - but the material in the WDC and FC books (especially the WDC books) hasn't been reprinted for decades, sometimes not even for 70 years! Some material in those books could only be read by hardcore collectors, which is not the case with Rosa's stories. European members who have Facsimile books of their weekly Donald Duck comic (Donald Duck, Micky Maus, Anders And, Kalle Anka, Aku Ankka) know what I mean.
Summary of what I'm trying to say here is: I don't like to see any of those books go, but if it has to, then I think it should be the Don Rosa collection.
What are your thoughts on this? If any of these books will have to go (which might be the case), which one should it be?

Oh, sorry, my fault, you were indeed right about this. Apparantly only Fantagraphics has a license to publish one-author works at this time. So, yes, the non-Rosa cover really seems to be a kind of cover-up.

I think maybe you are right Vesivius. The Duck Tales series will have at least 4 issues published. That's 9 issues less than the Gladstone series and 14 issues less than the Disney series.
If Boom loses their license I will be sad to say that I didn't get to enjoy too many of their comic books because the only one I actually have is Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers #1 with all four covers.

Didn't you get any of their classic titles?

Huzzah! I was right about something!

Gotta agree with you. Even beyond the HIGHLY dubious ethics of the Rosa collections, this stuff is all available elsewhere, mostly fairly cheaply. Whereas the other books, if done right, would be collectors' gold.

That said, I'd still buy the Rosa volume. Forgive me, Don! I just REALLY want to read "Star-Struck Duck!"

I'm just speculating...it makes sense that Boom would try to finish up at least 4 issues to get a trade paperback out of it. Of course, if they've lost the license it would be a moot point anyway, since the series could end mid-story.

The covers on Chip & Dale were great, as was the interior art, but that story didn't make a lick of sense. It felt like a rough draft of a fan-fic that no one ever got around to finishing.

I hope if these books move to Marvel, they hire David Gerstein as a contributing editor or consultant. These books need the input of someone who knows/cares about the characters.

FWIW, Fantagraphics (not Marvel) is releasing a Gottfredson Mickey Mouse comic book for Free Comic Book Day, whereas Boom (not Marvel) is putting out a Darkwing/CDRR issue:
