Coincidence or another sign of "the rats are leaving the sinking ship"?
With all of the layoffs, resignations and firings, I'd say the writing is on the wall and the ship is circling the drain.
I predicted Boom! wouldn't last past 2012 without Disney and Mark Waid.
Maybe I was being a tad optimistic. ;)
EDIT: Also, it might not be a particularly good sign when an established mainstream publisher resorts to Kickstarter to fund upcoming graphic novels...

I just received an e-mail from Boom telling me they've picked up the Garfield license, in addition to putting out new Peanuts stories. Not sure if the Garfield book will have new material or just feature reprints.
Is this the first time Garfield gets his own comic book? Surprising, considering he's been around 30 years. Heathcliff used to be published by Marvel.

AFAIK, it will be new material. Written by Mark Evanier (who worked on both Garfield cartoon series) and drawn by Gary Barker (who has worked on the Garfield newspaper strip the last thirty years).
See http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=36957 for more details.

Is this information relevant to this board? I dunno...but in any case, it strikes me that this new Garfield venture will almost certainly (especially if Evanier's working on it) be at least eight hundred times better than the comic strip's been for the last twenty-whatever years. I might actually almost be interested in it.

All these months later, do we know the whole story of what happened with Boom's Disney line yet? Why did they stop publishing the books? Do they still have the license?

There has been a lot of fan speculation... but no statement from either BOOM! or Disney.

According to what has been stated by former BOOM! staffers: no, they don't.

All this time and Marvel has yet to publish a Duck or Mouse book.
I have to wonder if going strictly digital isn't *the* plan for standard character comics in the US. :-/

There are rumors of resurrecting the Disney Afternoon line in some format. The standard comics... that's a different problem altogether.

Aaron Sparrow, of course, being the editor/plotter of Darkwing Duck's first arc.

That does sound like good news. Maybe they'll bring back the traditional Disney Characters later this year.
