Honestly, I couldn't tell you why. At one point, I was interested in freelancing for Boom! Not because I was a fan of Boom! (as I don't even follow superhero comics) but because I wanted to have the opportunity to work on Disney titles again. My memory is a bit foggy here, but somehow I wound up in contact with their marketing guy over some samples I'd sent in, and I gushed about my love for Disney comics.

He told me to basically watch what I said online if I wanted to work for Boom, which was very confusing as nothing I had said at that point could have been construed as "negative." At the time, I was a Boom! cheerleader, but I did wonder aloud how relegating the standard characters to "Elseworlds" titles would fair. I guess that was my "negative" comment?

There were sporadic emails back and forth to correct me on this 'n that, usually within a few minutes of my saying something I guess I shouldn't have. Again, most of these could be distilled down to "Hi. How are you? Stop talking."

At least from where I was sitting, but who knows? ;)

So once I figured out there was no freelance work to be had, and that I was basically being patronized in (what I believe was) an attempt to keep me from posting any "negative" opinions online, I started a sales thread to try and show the powers that be over at Boom! that these books were not selling any better than Gemstone's, and were in fact slipping very quickly in sales from month to month (save for DARKWING DUCK.)

That prompted my all-time favorite e-mail from Boom: that ICv2's numbers were inaccurate, and not to be trusted (and presumably, not to be posted either!)

If memory serves me correctly, I facetiously retorted with something like "Hey, if you don't want me to post anything you don't like, then put me on payroll and slap me with an NDA." ;)

Then again, maybe I completely misread his intentions. But having seen other anti-Boom sentiment online mysteriously... get gone, and knowing how they feel the need to reply to virtually each and every potentially negative post on the interwebs... I don't think so.

All I can say in retrospect is THANK GOD I dodged THAT bullet. ;)

I think Boom! has bigger fish to fry than to fume over one lowly freelancer who was only interested in working on a license they no longer have.

Oh, that's unfortunate! Did DUCKTALES #3 have an editor, or is Burns' exodus more recent? (Gosh, hopefully it wasn't because of the DUCKTALES #3 debacle!)

Giving BOOM!/kaboom! the hypothetical benefit of the doubt for a second:

Let's say the wrong file was given to the printer for those 2 pages in question (remember I'm going into hypothetical territory here).

What should they do?
A. Own up to it, and swiftly make sure to let the consumer aware they're on top of the situation.
B. Keep completely silent, and go on, business as usual.

We already know BOOM!/kaboom! chooses a resounding "Choice B" - I offer this case only because I noticed the following article, here's how a CLASS operation handles mistakes, and owns up to their errors:

DC Comics might be under fire by some fans for their major character reboot plans, but they still make sure stuff like this is properly addressed.

LOL Yeah, some funny people over there. Especially considering the fact that Pujol *never* had anything to do with the final series. And yep, Castellani definitely won't have anything to do with the comic itself either. His only DuckTales (and final BOOM!) work (besides some covers which were drawn before but published at a later time) were those first ten or twelve pages in issue #1.

Hey guys! I'm trying to get a response out of Boom! over on their message boards regarding the quality of the DuckTales comic book and the cancellation of the rest of the comics line. (http://forums.boom-studios.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2862)
Their discipline in not responding and in ignoring the fans (i.e., their customers) is staggering and amazing. I'm not the only one who has questioned them about the cancellation of the comic books. They just won't respond.
Can they really afford to be this rude to their customers?? I mean, they are a small, independent company, right? DC and Marvel can afford to be rude, but I can't imagine them acting this way on a regular basis. Can you?
