Jose Massaroli's artwork isn't the major problem for me... the inconsistency of the art style is. Once RESCUE RANGERS wraps up, I hope that Leonel Castellani takes over the artistic duties on DUCKTALES.

CDRR's remaing issues are already finished, it won't continue after issue eight. Castellani is also no longer working with BOOM, so DuckTales will most likely continue to be drawn by Massaroli.

Any word as to why Castellani isn't working with Boom anymore? I've read on other sites they pay very low and often late, but it seems that he was willing to take their rates on C&DRR... could DuckTales actually pay LESS?

A shame that Castellani has departed. He was not well served by the scripts he got in RESCUE RANGERS.

I finally picked up the first two issues of DuckTales, and though I enjoy the story I find the artwork to be terrible. The first pages by Castellani are okay, but the second half of the first issue is among the worst artwork I've seen in a while. Some parts look like rough drawings that were never finished. Not worth $3.99 in my opinion.

DT #3... ugh, what a train wreck! I got APE's RICHIE RICH #3 the same day. If you'd told me a while back that I would enjoy RR #3 more than DT #3... but I did. James Silvani does a good job with the "updated" RICHIE characters in the lead story, btw.

Everyone, there's a preview of DuckTales #3 at http://comicbookrealm.com/previews/3082/kaboom-ducktales-issue-3 .

I thought it was nice to see Spector finally acknowledge some series continuity with the character of Cinnamon. Gladstone as Agent X might be interesting. I know it's not the first time someone tried to use Gladstone's luck against Scrooge, but who knows - maybe Spector can do it differently. I did have a few issues with the issue though. Firstly, based on the story description (http://comicbookrealm.com/previews/3082/kaboom-ducktales-issue-3/), it seemed like Donald Duck would have a major role in the story. Then again, the story itself hardly matched the description. So did Cover A for that matter as the scene never actually happened in the book. Even the crown on Cover B more closely resembled its DuckTales version while in the story itself it looked closer to Barks'. Anyway I was actually hoping when this new series was announced that Donald would have a more major role in the series as a whole, but no such luck. Just a completely wasted cameo. Even when everyone seems to be within a hundred feet of each other, Scrooge, the Nephews, Donald, Daisy and Gladstone never even all interact. Secondly, I would think that even someone as confident as Gladstone would seem at least a little nervous about having lost his memory, but he just seems happy-go-lucky as ever. Also strange that - even under a trance - he would refer to Scrooge as "Scroogey." Then again I suppose completely removing him from Scrooge's family tree wouldn't be the least of Spector's changes. Plus not once but twice does someone refer to Scrooge as "Mr. Scrooge." I know it's a common grammatical error among foreigners, but as far as we can tell, Farquardt and the museum curator seem to be American. So is Spector, so it can't be a translation error. So Scrooge finally encounters a Beagle Boy he never met before - and identifies him as as 716-716. Again I have mixed feelings about Spector's reverting all of the series' changes back to Barks. Granted the DuckTales versions of the Beagle Boys seemed more inspired by the Three Stooges than by Barks' Beagle Boys, but they were nonetheless an essential aspect of that universe. As for the art - what is with the bottom panel with Daisy meeting Gladstone, Webby and the Nephews walking and Scrooge, Launchpad and Farqaurdt driving away. Louie, Webby and Gladstone's feet appear to be off the ground. I know they're ducks but come on! And Rockerduck is apparently talking to Cinnamon either off-panel or on an off-screen telephone. So where is she???

Longtime Disney comics reviewer Chris Barat (kimba_1962) calls DUCKTALES #3 a "TRAIN WRECK".... and rightly so, from the looks of it!

Quite possibly the harshest review I've seen him write. Wow... just WOW.
They should've hired Joe Torcivia to write this. They really should've.
And, did they actually PUBLISH this level of artwork in such a high profile title?!

I Can't believe they published such poor quality art, and such dull and silly dialogue. Several of us who post in our Fanfiction sections (drawing and writing) could do a LOT better.

Omygosh... this is not only the silliest plot I've ever heard, but also by far *the* worst pieces of artwork that I've ever seen in a commercially sold comic book. Are they serious? These look like pages from a fan comic (and even those usually look better). Awful staging, awful perspective, awful balloon placement... and AWFUL coloring. Are they doing this with Paint? Let's all be thankful that this is going to end sooner than later.

Many of the 8-10 year old fans who have drawn gag pages and stories in drawing contests sponsored by Sanoma Uitgevers and published in The Dutch Donald Duck Weekly have produced better art than that. It's pitiful. It is unbelievable that the editors of Boom! would risk having their company's reputation be so besmirched. They'll be a laughingstock when they bid on contract jobs in future.

O_o No way...

And me thinking I wasn't doing a too good job with our Talespin fan comic... But when I see this...even *I* who has NO experience in drawing could have done better than that!!! They even copy/pasted the characters several times... (and the coloring...ROFL!)
If time was the problem, I think they should rather have delayed it or even cancelled it instead of publishing that...
Maybe it's not a bad thing that Boom didn't publish Talespin comics after all...

I knew Boom! didn't care anymore about the Disney comics now that they lost the licence, but I wouldn't have guessed it would be THAT bad.
This confirms all the (bad) things that Aaron Sparrow said about them. I'm not spending any more dollar to buy their books.

As for the story side, I'm surprised too because Warren Spector is truly a fan and did an awesome job with Epic Mickey. My best bet is that he couldn't dedicate the book enough time and it was rushed, or that the editors working on the book didn't follow his instructions.

It looks like the book was rushed, and like they possibly ran out of money for art. That page looks as if someone other than the artist (editor? marketing guy?) did a quick 'n dirty tracing job, then copied and pasted those characters in Photoshop.
It would've been better to ship a book late than ship THAT.
Whatever the reason, it looks as if Boom! simply doesn't care anymore.
I think it's time to take Old Yeller out back. :(

Is James Silvani handling the final arc? I can only hope so.
