I just read the advanced review for DuckTales #4 and I'm happy to say the artwork was great. I didn't see any noticeable copy-pasting, and it was all consistent and well drawn. I found the conclusion to be satisfying as well. The only mistake that jumped out at me was that they got Cinnamon Teal's origin wrong.

Sorry, I should've clarified. When I meant advanced review, I meant I received an actual copy of the comic to read for review, because I'm on BOOM's press list. I don't know of any written reviews that have popped up yet.

I now have DT #4 and... well, whatever problems the issue has are not art-related. Massaroli and Torreiro do a fine job. The writing is another matter. How I wish Spector could have gotten this whole continuity-crossing business STRAIGHT before he plunged in... I will do a review on my blog as soon as my brand new computer is up and running.

My two cents on issue #4:
The artwork is pretty nice throughout this time.
Gladstone as far as I know may be the only character in the history of Disney comics to actually not be fooled by a paper thin disguise. Off the top of my head, I honestly can't even think of any story where Gladstone actually encountered the Beagle Boys. I'm sure there were, but time I actually remember them being in the same story was Rosa's Little Something Special.
Odd to hear Gu actually speak, even if it is broken English. I supposed logically the species could've evolved since the Ducks' last visit.
Strange dialogue on p. 10 - "Boys, Webby, Launchpad, Farquardt, Gladstone--we're off to a good start, but now it's time to pick up the pace!" Did he really have to mention everyone by name (except the "boys") in that sentence. Couldn't he have just addressed the group as "everyone" or at least "gang?"
Geez, Webby looks drawn weird without her bow! :/ I know Scrooge, Huey, Dewey, Louie (and Donald) are all "bald" without their hats but Webby looks an alien duck - or worse yet (I really hope this is not offensive) like a duck cancer victim! Well, if the cover of next month's issue is any indication (though so far quite a few of the covers have nothing to do with the actual stories) Webby will eventually get her bow back soon.
Some of Scrooge's most treasured memories involve giving something up important to him? I get that the comic, as did the series at times, is trying to teach a moral lesson, but it seems almost masochistic here. Certainly a 180 from Barks in any event. I never claimed to be a saint myself, but I honestly fail to see anything wrong with the way in which Scrooge acquires his wealth at least 99% of the time, even though once in a blue moon he did have to sacrifice a little in the interest of doing the right thing - i.e. (Barks') Back to the Klondike, Island in the Sky. Though admittedly an influence, Scrooge is not completely Indiana "It belongs in a museum" Jones, nor is he "Sometimes to do what's right, we have to give up what we love the most - even our dreams" Spider-Man.
Finally some acknowledgement that Launchpad is CEO of Quackwerks - though Scrooge saying that he'll dock his pay for all the wrecked planes and helicopters in a little strange - granted it's in character for Scrooge, but again looking back over the other three issues I see that throughout this new series, I've only actually seen one plane crash. Scrooge already appointed him CEO months ago? Why is suddenly having a change of heart about the past?
I honestly can't tell if it's me or Spector, but I totally don't get what the curator is saying on p. 17 "John D. Rockerduck! 37 glorious artifacts to...heh...heh...heh...er...excuse me...37 artifacts to my, my, my, this is so embarrassing...4!" :| I'm certainly no mathematician, but was that a major miscalculation???? Where did #4 come from????
The bet was to eat 77 hats? Looking back over at issue #1 I see Scrooge and Rockerduck just agreed to "usual terms." Then again I admit I'm not too familiar with Rockerduck stories outside of what I've seen printed in America.
Huh? :| It's because of the curator that Rockerduck lost? He had the artifacts returned to the museum? "Think of the children who'd never know of Genghis Khan or Achoo Loo...who'd never learn the true story of America or the nature of dinosaurs?" Again, I'm just totally confused. The Nephews find Rockerduck's artifacts in the back, but it was Scrooge (in this continuity) who made most of these historical discoveries. We see Scrooge return the Crown of Genghis Khan and the dinosaur - and get the Crown and the Ruby returned to him in the end. So what artifacts did the curator have returned? And how? And who is this Achoo Loo anyhoo?
Spector continues to get his continuities wrong when Daisy refers to Cinnamon Teal as a "St. Canard villainess." She's wasn't even from Duckburg or anywhere in Calisota! Actually I forgot what country she was from but still...Spector should know.
Shouldn't Rockerduck be eating derbies if Scrooge ate top hats?
Nice to finally see some interaction a little interaction between Donald and Daisy - and the Nephews. Nice that they finally gave Donald a little something to do too, though I would've also liked to have seen some interaction between Donald and Gladstone - and between Scrooge and Donald. I would've even liked to have seen Donald as part of the family hug at the end.
Anyway I have to admit I am looking forward to the Darkwing Duck crossover. Given that Kaboom's license expires in October (I believe the reason they're releasing the final two issues of Darkwing the same month) I would like to see issue #5 released this Wednesday - mostly as a fitting "anniversary gift" to the series (first airing as a series on September 21st - while today in fact marks the 24th anniversary of the "Treasure of the Golden Suns" pilot), finally crossing over with the series it inspired.

Manduck, you make a lot of the same points I was planning on bringing out in my own review. I REALLY had a problem with Scrooge's speech about "giving up something important to him [as long as it doesn't cost him money]." It sounds as if he should be glad whenever Magica shows up to snatch the #1 Dime!
I gather than the 4 returned artifacts on Scrooge's tote board were the Candy-Striped Ruby, the Crown of Genghis Khan, the gold coat (which shouldn't even exist in DT continuity, but that train has LONG since left the station, I think), and the young dinosaur. Re: Achoo Loo, the "Golden Bill of Achoo Loo" was mentioned in #3 as one of the artifacts that Rockerduck had brought back.
The business with the curator not obeying Rockerduck's orders was actually telegraphed in #3 in a subtle way. That's not to say that I didn't notice its contrived nature -- and then there's HDL's apparent "sixth sense" of knowing where the hidden, unreturned baubles were to begin with.
Cinnamon Teal's origins weren't the only thing that Daisy (or Spector) messed up. How can she remember that she was hypnotized to FORGET everything??
I assume that Rockerduck was eating top hats simply because they were already available to be served up to the "losing" Scrooge. But if the two ultimately finish tied 0-0, then shouldn't the bet simply be negated, as opposed to Scrooge having to join Rockerduck in chowing down?
There were some bright spots in #4 and, as I previously noted, the artwork was very good. But "Rightful Owners" as a whole remains pretty much of a gory mess. I'm hoping for better from the crossover.

The curator was announcing the results of the contest (37 to 4), and was seemingly astonished and embarrassed by the fact that Scrooge only returned 4 artifacts while Rockerduck supposedly returned 37.
