The Norwegian version of WDC 165 also has Donald working in the margarine
factory (first published in Donald Duck & Co no 6, 1955).
Just like in Sweden, it has for a long time been considered a fact that
Donald works in the margarine factory (whenever he doesn't do something
else). So much so, that the expression "working in the margarine factory"
is sometimes used as a joke in real life. Most people will recognize the

I have several issues of Tom&Jerry from the early 90s. Some of them had
literal reprints of Barks stories, while others were re-translated. From
Swedish, I think.

But, yeah, as I travel Europe, I frequently have difficulty convincing
people that "Don Rosa" is my real name. Once when I was appearing at...
uh... that big amusement park outside of Oslo, one of the stage performers
asked me what my "real" name was, and refused to believe it was "Don Rosa".
I've mentioned this before... to European ears, where it is a tradition
for cartoonists to use one-name pseudonyms, "Don Rosa" sounds quite phony
and is sometimes written by fans as "Donrosa". They take "Don" to be the
Spanish or Italian antiquated term of respect, and "Rosa" means "pink" in
many languages. So my name sounds to them like "Sir Pinky".
I'd mentioned that before, but I relate it again because I wanted to ask
about this business of Donald working in a "margarine" factory in
Scandinavia. A margarine factory? I don't get it. Barks' "skunk oil"
factory sounds funny... like, why would anyone want skunk oil?! But to

But, maybe there have been plans for a "Sheriff of Bullet Valley" cover for
set 2 of "The Carl Barks Library"? Barks made covers for the sets published
from 1983 to 1985 (set 8, 1, 3, 9, and 4). The two sets published in 1986
and 1988 have partial covers. Set 2 is the first of them. (The other is
set 7.) Maybe at this point, Barks decided to quit with making complete
covers? No new cover art was made for remaining set 5, 6, and 10, published
in 1989 and 1990. But then, why "Sherrif of Bullet Valley" as initial cover
choice? An original Barks cover for this story already exists, almost
identical to this design.
BTW. Maybe the 1980s plans for painting "Sheriff of Bullet Valley" were

(I know ads aren't popular, they aren't by myself, but
as many here don't get comics in a language they can
read, maybe they would like to see Don's new story
(Beagle Boys vs. Moneybin) nevertheless.)
It will be in danish, but I will clear out any
understanding problems, if necesary.
I ask this now, more than 2 weeks before the issue
comes out, because I will order the amount of issues I
will need before it comes out. I did that ever since I
started to swap with duckfriends on the internet. I
lived in Vildbjerg back then, and still I have a good
relationship to our bookstore owner. (I've laid many
money there anyway). well, so that i don't clear her
stack of issue 21's completely I will give her a
chance to order some extra issues from the publisher.
A friend once asked me why I do so, order the issues
at the bookstore, as there is actually several stores
in town, and they all have the weekly, well, as I
answered, because I like the bookstore best. Ever
since I first started buying the weekly, the
pokcetbook and those, they have been steadfastly
having those publications. Other places I could come,
and they wouldn't have the pokcetbook or such.
Later, I think it was in 1999 when I had no job, I one
day biked around asking about the soon coming
goldbook, and got some IMO rather unfriendly answers
from most places, except for the bookstore where they
ordered it for me from publisher.
So, I already have some issues ordered, in my mind,
for all the friends I have been talking about this,
plus one I haven't been in contact with since a long
time, - but I want to give you others a chance to get
an issue. You wont have to get it from me (if you
don't like me or something! LOL...) you can get them
from any dane, swede or norwegian + maybe any fin or
german (eventually the story will come out there too,
as time goes by. - later it will come out in France,
The Netherlands, Italy and Greece I suppose) - well,
any of those who are willing to swap. (Speaking about
that, it could be fun to compare, so maybe: are there
any swedes her willing to swap? I think I will be able
to get a norwegian copy from a friend there?)
Good luck at eventually upcoming exams, I hope I will
have it.

You're right, it isn't particularly funny. I guess they just wanted to
think of a factory that was as boring as possible, which makes it kinda
funnyish that Donald has to work there.
I seem to remember they've talked about the margarine factory at least
since the eighties, possibly longer.
What is skunk oil, anyway? Is it just someting Barks made up, or do you
actually have something like that in US?
