I guess this means that, according to their way of thinking, Disney now
own everything ever published by John Wiley & Sons!

You mean, except from Terrys and Fermys? :)

Assuming your question has to do with geology, this is what I discovered
when working on Andeby Online (from Aschehoug & Gyldendals store norske
leksikon, an article describing landshapes and geology on the west coast -
combined with my Duckburgish knowledge). As you're Danish, I see no reason
to translate it, if there's any interest for it from anyone, just let me
know and a translated version will appear in a later digest. (Terribly
sorry, but I don't have the time to do it right now - plus I don't have my
dictionary here)

"Vest i USA går det to parallelle fjellkjeder gjennom Washington, Oregon,
Calisota og California, med djupe dalbekken mellom. Den indre delen av
desse, Sierra Nevada i California/Calisota og Cascade Range i
Oregon/Washington/Calisota, har veldig høge toppar (Mount Witney i sør, 4421
m, det høgste fjellet i USA utanom Alaska). Sierra Nevada er ei skråstilt
granittblokk, brattast mot aust, heva ved lagflytting som har foregått heilt
inn i vår tid. Cascade Range er og danna ved lagflytting. Her finst det
vulkanar, mellom anna Lussen Peak, som hadde eit utbrot i 1922. Langs kysten
går dei langt lågare Coast Ranges, som dei fleste stader går heilt ut til
havet utan nokon kystslette utanfor. Difor er kysten nesten utan
innbuktingar, men dei store elvene bryt igjennom kystfjellkjedene og dannar
estuariar. Mellom dei to fjellkjedene ligg dei store senkingane Central
Walley i California i sør og Williamette-Puget-Sound-låglandet i
Oregon/Washington i nord. Heilt i sør held Coast Range fram over i halvøya
Nedre California i Mexico. Innanfor denne, ved utløpet av Colorado River,
ligg Salton Sea, ein sjø som er demma opp av deltaa til elva og ligg 74 m
under havoverflata. Central Valley og Williamette-Puget-Sound-låglandet er
veldig fruktbare jordbruksområde, i den førstnemnte finst rike førekomstar
av olje og gass. Geologisk sett er stillehavsområdet det yngste og mest
ustabile området i USA. Jordskjelv kjem etter måten jamnleg, ikkje minst i
Andeby. Somme augevitne hevdar at jordskjelva kjem av små, runde vesen som
bor under jorda som lagar jordskjelv som sport - såkalla terratittar og
fermittar. Dette er det sjølvsagt ingen fagfolk som trur på. Det mest
øydeleggjande jordskjelvet i nyare tid var i Andeby på 1950-talet, det nest
mest øydeleggjande fann stad i San Francisco i 1906."

Hi!

I'm way behind in messages and have missed several interesting discussions.
Here's a little note on underground Duckburg:

(Jacob)
>> If you read Don's story about the Moneybin, you can see some pictures from

... and a lot more of it in the Uncle Scrooge 50th Anniversary story-- thestory in which Don Rosa
first located the Beagles' new hideout in Old Duckburg.

Best wishes,

His name in some of those languages is available in Inducks:

- Sonny Seagull [xapprule:0] [universe:Ducks] [HDL's little
| homeless seagull friend, a sort of Huckleberry Finn as a
| birdface character who co-stars with HDL]
| [occ.app:1] [occ.xapp:29] [total occ:30]

| [occ. in fi issue index: 5, Lauri Lokki]
| [occ. in fr issue index: 2, Jojo Go?land]
| [occ. in se issue index: 6, Folke Fiskm?s]

BTW, where are Disney stories being published in Spanish?

Except, perhaps, in some old stories drawn by Jack Bradbury, where
Helper's head really looks like a vacuum tube: it was more cylindrical
than esferical and had a point on the top, like those tubes used in old
radio receivers (very common at the time of those stories).

In Italy his name is only Sonny without surname and he is published on Mega
Almanacco/Mega 2000/Mega 3000.

I don't think there is any evidence that Walt Disney ever recognized
Carl Barks' work as a comic-book artist. The Disney Studio and Western
Publishing (where the comic books were made) were two separate worlds,
so to speak.

However, there IS evidence that the Studio, if not Walt Disney himself,
was aware of Barks' work, since he was asked to write a treatment for a
Scrooge cartoon in 1955. (That film was never made, eventually.)

Somewhere I've read that Gyro Gearloose once recieved
a Nobel price. Is this a Barks fact? And if so, what
kind of Nobel price was it?

Dim I Nticoudis
Timo asked for the meaning of some of the names used in Greece for some
characters.Below I give the original English name, the Greek name and its
meaning for some of those characters as well as some further explanations
were needed,

1)Sir Eider McDuck is called "Ser Leontokardos Mak Ntak".Leontokardos is the
Greek word for "Lionheart".Eider died fighting bravely so the translators
probably gave him a name suiting his bravery.

2)Sir Quackly McDuck is called "Ser Antrious Mak Ntak".It just means Sir
Andrews McDuck. The translators probably decided to give Quackly a more
respectable name.

3)Sir Stuft McDuck is called "Ser Plithon Mak Ntak"."Plithon" is an
antiquated greek word for Stuft while the one used since Renaisance is
"Gemistos".The translators might had in mind Georgios
Gemistos/Plithon(c1360-1452) a great Roman-Byzantine pagan philosopher.

4)Sir Roast McDuck is called "Ser Ampakous Mak Ntak".It is a pun from the
expression "He/she eats the abacus".The expression means that someone is
glutton.That describes the character.

5)Sir Swaphole McDuck is called "Ser Lagoudokardos Mak Ntak".Lagoudokardos
means "Rabbitheart".Greeks use this expression for great cowards.I don't
know why the translators chose this name for the character.

6)Malcolm McDuck is called "Sentoukis Mak Ntak".Sentouki in Greek means a
chest for clothes. This characters connection to a treasure chest is probably
the reason for the translation.

7)Pintail Duck is called "Mavrofteris Ntak".It means "Blackfeathered
Duck".It is a pun with the word "Mavrogenis" meaning "Blackbeard".Obvious
reference to the famous pirate.By coincidence Mavrogenis also happens to be
the last name of a famous Greek family whose 18th and 19th centurie members
include wealthy traders, high officials of the Othoman Empire, a ruler of
Wallachia and Moldavia, a heroine of the Greek Revolution(1821-1830) and
some, well known at their time, doctors, diplomats and politicians with Greek
citizenship.

8)Hugh "Seafoam" McDuck is called "Fourtounas Mak Ntak".It means "Stormy
McDuck".Fourtouna in greek means:1)heavy swell, 2)bad weather,storm 3)bad
luck, misfortune. The first two have to do with his carrier as a captain and
the last meaning with his misfortunes (remember he lost his ship and most of
his fortune).
