full programme for Don Rosa's upcoming visit to
Helsinki, Turku, Tampere and Oulu.

As Harry Fluks was able to demonstrate recently (when I
pointed to the letter from October 2016), I am not
a careful reader of every single message to the DCML.

Hi Friends,

I'm a Finnish comic book collector. I have a net site with a
small Carl Barks page
http://www.sci.fi/~karielk/akuankka.htm It's only in
Finnish, sorry. I like to tell that there are much more than
2000 Donald Duck comic books published in Finland and Carl
Barks is very popular here. He is also one of my favourites.

I have several spare issues of Finnish Donald Duck comic
book Aku Ankka. Many of them are Carl Barks specials and
most include at least one Carl Barks story. I'm willing to
swap them to other comics. I have swapped many kinds of
comics with guys all over the world but so far I have not
succeeded to find anyone willing to get Finnish Aku Ankka
(Donald Duck) comic books.

On my page http://www.sci.fi/~karielk/com_shop.htm you can
find a list what I have and what I miss. Those Finnish
comics I like to swap with you are under link "Myyn" on that
page. Some of comics I like to get are listed under link "I
buy". I hope you are interested to swap some of these Carl
Barks comic books.

I have even collected a huge excel sheet which list allmost
all Carl Barks stories published in Finland. It has 1252
rows = stories published. You see that some stories are
published several times.

My file includes this information:
Title and issue number of Finnish publication, Title
Character in Finnish, Story title in Finnish, Number of
Pages, American Comic Book Title and issue number there
story was Originally published, Original Publishing Year, Do
I own story in Finnish and Do I own story in English. I can
email this to those who swap with me. It is the biggest
sheet in my Comics and other collecting excel file (total
size 1,2MB).

Thanks to H. W. Fluks for telling me about this mailing list
and about INDUCKS list. My Carl Barks file is a bit
different to INDUCKS lists because my file is completely
sortable. It does not contain so versatile information but
it has been very usefull for my own collecting.

The most striking example is probably the opening splash panel of "The Magic Hourglass" (DD FC 291,
Sept '50, album 17). And you will find "buildings made of *rubber*" pp 9 & 9 of WDC&S 112 ("Rip
Van Donald", Jan '50, album 16).
You may also want to check panel 4 p 21 of "The Empire-Builder from Calisota" (L&T 11, U$ 295, Dec
'95).
I believe there are more instances.

You can get a "completely sortable" Barks file from Inducks. For instance as
an Excel file.

First, "any Carl of Don's stories"? Is that supposed to be "any of Carl's of
Don's stories"? Or are we talking about ONLY Carl Barks?

I don't have any magazines here now, since I'm studying, but unless I'm
wrong, I remember lots of stories with skyscrapers...

--- W WDC 134-02 - "Terror of the Beagle Boys" - The cannonball launched
from Scrooge's office, doesn't it destroy some, or at least one, skyscraper
before it returns to destroy the Money Bin? I seem to recall that it even
was McDuck Tower?
--- "The Beagle Boys vs The Money Bin" (I haven't found the story code! I
have it at home, but...) - and maybe also "A little something special" -
mentions that as Duckburg grew, the old building were "buried and used as
fundament for the new skyscrapers"...
--- F PM 99001 - "The coin" - includes a JWC-trip to McDuck Tower, and I
also remember the Beagle Boys standing on the top of a very tall building.
--- And what about the first frame of "The incredible shrinking tightwad" (D
94202), "The black knight" (D 97346), "The quest for Kalevala" (D 99078) and
"Gyro's Beagletrap" (G TEM 9510)?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I talked to Solveig Thime (editor of Norwegian Donald Duck & Co) some days
ago (I called her to thank her for setting me in contact with Byron
Erickson), and she told me that it would be very funny if I got some of my
stories published, because there had been no Norwegian writers or artists
since the 1970's! This shocked me, I had always thought that some of the
writers of today - maybe Flemming Andersen or Jan Kruse - was Norwegian?
(mock me, but I'm that stupid. If I see names I define as Norwegian - like
"Jan" or "Andersen" - I concider that they may be Norwegians.) What a shock!
(This also means that *I* can be the first Norwegian writer in 20 years...
exciting...)

Anyway, my question:
Can someone tell me who's the most famous Norwegian writers/artists?

Jan Kruse is Dutch. And so are Jan Vijver, Jan Kroon, Jan Steeman, Jan van
Haasteren.
"Jan" is a very Dutch name (for a male). In fact I thought it was a unique
Dutch name, until now (and that Jan Gulbransson, Jan Roar Hansen, and Jan
Follak were strange exceptions)...

Hi all!

Apart from Don's story, there is a much older reference to Twin Towers.
I'm talking about I TL 986-A ( "Paperino e la gara dei grattacieli",
by Siegel and Scala)

***SPOILER ALERT***

Actually, in this story Scrooge and J. D. Rockerduck must build two
identical towers, one in front of the other. He who will complete his
building in less time, will gain the property of both towers. Half a
disaster.

***END OF SPOILER***

I have a very pale memory of this story, since I read it in my
childhood ( oct 1974), but what stroke me was the strange style in
which the two towers were fashioned, half way between baroque and
d?co. Very Scala-ish, indeed.

It is also interesting to point out that, when this story appeared,
the WTC was still being completed, and it was not a familiar part of
NYC skyline as it has been for nearly 30 years since .

Strange things happen in Disney comics...
