Gilles mentions an ancestor of the Ducks who is Greek called Alexander
Duck.I have never heard of him.But there is a story with greek
ancestors.Maybe you can find him among them.It is the 1990 multi-part "Le
sette meraviglie dei paperi" by Fabio Michelini and Giuseppe Della Santa in
which Scrooge McDuck tells the tales of seven monuments his ancestors had
built on different times and places.I sadly do not know the original Italian
names of the characters but I can mention the name of the story, when and
where it takes place.
Part I is called "Il Cubo di Paperubik"(I TL 1800-A).It takes place in
Egypt on 3010 BC staring the main brunch of the Ducks family at the time.
Part II is called "I giardini pensili di Paperlona"(I TL 1801-A).It takes
place in the city Paperlona of Messopotamia on 860 BC.The Ducks have left
Egypt for this area now.
Part III is called "La Statua di Giove Olimpo"(I TL 1802-C).It takes place
in Olympia,Greece on 776 BC where a brunch of the Ducks from Messopotamia
has settled. The story takes place during the first historic Olympic games.
Part IV is called "Il templo di Amelide"(I TL 1803-A).It takes place in
Ephesus, modern Turkey on 560 BC where a brunch from Olympia has now settled.
Part V is called "Il mausoleo di Papernasso"(I TL 1804-C).It takes place
in Papernasso, modern Turkey on 377 BC where a brunch from Ephesus has now
settled.
Part VI is called "Il Colosso di Paperodi"(I TL 1805-A).It takes place in
Paperodi,an island in the Aegean sea on 300 BC where a brunch from
Papernasso has now settled.
Part VII is called "Il Faro di Paperandria"(I TL 1806-A).It takes place in
Paperandria,Egypt on 270 BC where a brunch from Paperodi has now settled.
Perhaps one of the Ducks in this story was translated in Holland as
Alexander Duck.I hope you can find the Italian names Gilles.

Yes, I know Don Rosa renamed Dumbella this way because it sounded stupid
On another side, the name Della was already the translation for Dumbella in
German, as shown in the family tree, which is from 1984. I dunno when the
Duck Family Tree of Don, and the Lo$ in which Della appears, have been
published, but that is quite a few years after 1984. I just wanted to know if
it was a coincidence, or if Don inspired himself with the german name of
Dumbella.

About the greek ancestors, this cannot be the story you talked about, because
it is from 1990, so 6 years after the german tree was published...

To avoid this problem, and to give money bin what's money bin's, I wrote an
introduction about Beagle Boys in the *next* issue of ZP, which celebrates
their 50th Birthday. So, your "Money Bin - BB story" can have an article ALL
focused on the money bin!

Strobl drew for the Studio Program quite a few stories featuring Rockerduck.
But they were not good stories (and Strobl too was not at his best).

These stories AFAIK were inspired by the Italian tradition. Rockerduck was
the rival of $crooge in Italian stories, since March 1963:

I did?!?! That's news to me! I do all my work solo (except the Bin plans
which were computer-drawn by Dan Shane).

>>>>I wondered where does the name Della Duck comes from...
I saw that in all of Barks and Worden's family trees, she was called
Thelma,
that her first used name was Dumbella...

I'm surprised that no one has beat me to this answer!
Thelma was Barks' name for Donald's sister. The stupid "Dumbella" was the
name used in Disney's cartoon that was the first animated use of the
Nephews. But the FIRST appearance of the trio was in Osbourne &
Taliaferro's newspaper strip, and there her name was given as DELLA. I had
no trouble deciding to use that one. And "Dumbella" might be the mean name
that Donald taunted her with, as brothers do to sisters. (I couldn't tease
my sister because she was 11 years older than me, hit harder and had
ranking control of all the comic books in the household.)

Oh. Or do you mean they said that I worked on a tribute to Barks which
several other German artists also worked on, though separately from me?
That's different.
(But still not true.)

According to Don Rosa Donald and Della Duck are borned on 1920.Donald has
already met Mickey Mouse by 1931(More HooZoo).Donald's life starts being
recorded on 1934(Wise Little Hen). Are any of his cartoon and comic strips
adventures considered as cannon? On 1934 he already lives alone and knows how
to play music,in 1935 he confirms his ability and a preference to flutes.
On 1937 he first meets his nephews in a comic strip. His seventeen-year-old
sister already had children. But Don claims his nephews weren't borned until
1940.Are Donald's appearances with his nephews both in cartoon and
comicbooks released between 1937 and 1947(Christmas on Bear Mountain)
actualy taking place between 1940 and 1947?
When Does he meet his nephews?Della is not mentioned after 1944,probably
deceased.So some time between 1940 and 1944?
What about Donald's women? He is with Donna Duck on 1937 and Daisy Duck on
1940.They can't be the same person since they meet each other in a comic
strip of the time.
Donald is supposed to be serving in the U.S.A army during the World War
II.Is this considered as an actual reference to his life?
What about Carl Bark stories between 1942 and 1947?Don considered Scrooge
retired during those years to explain why wasn't he appearing in those
stories. But when did this stories happen? The kids in the Pirate Gold of 1942
do not act as two years old.And when do this latest Barks'stories happen. In
"A little Something SpeciaL" by Don Rosa Scrooge meets Flintheart
Glomgold(1956) and Magica De Spell(1962) on 1952.Have all the Barks stories
and the previous Don's already occured till 1952?
Any explanation for the 1920-1967 continiuty of the Ducks?
I liked Don's painting of Scrooge's grave.According to Don the 19th
centurie Ducks followed each other to the grave between the 1960's and the
1970's.So among the additions to the McDucks' cemeterie during the period
there are:
1)Elvira Coot. Her farm must pass to whoever of her descedants is now the
head of the family.
2)Scrooge McDuch. He must have chosen a single heir because in "The Sands of
Time" he doesn't want his money to be divided.
3)Flintheard Glomgold. If he didn't want his fortune to be inherited by the
Southafrican govermwent he probably left it to the still living Scrooge or
Scrooge's heir.
4)John D.Rockerduck.The third richest Duck in the world(he actualuy claims
to be second) has nephews to take over his business.
5)Glittering Goldie O'Gilt. What ever business she had in the North probably
were inherited bu her granddaughter Dickie Duck.
6)Brigitta McBridge.Scrooge's second love probably left whatever fortune she
had to her friends Daisy or Dickie Duck.
7)Molly McGold. The richest businesswoman in Gooseburg probably left her
fortune to Scrooge's heir.So Scrooge idea of how could their fortunes be
joined can be fullfiled.
8)Ludwig Von Drake. The lonely Austrian probably died.Whatever money he had
probably went to the Duck who idolised him:Fethry Duck.
Any answers?

In quite famous Italian story "Paperino anno 2001" I TL 309-A Donald has got
all the money. So it has happened already!
I wonder what happens when/if this is going to reprint someday? Will it be
"Paperino anno 2010"?

After searching information asbout Disney's early Mickey Mouse
shorts(1928-1930) I searched the Inducks for the first comic strips stories
of 1930.There are only five indexed from YM 000-004.Is any of the facts of
this stories important for the evolution of Mickey? Is any origin of him
presented?
There seems to be a lot of changes in the creator department of this
year. The creators contributing in this stories appear to be:
1)Win Smith.
2)Walt Disney.
3)Ub Iwerks.
4)Floyd Gottfredson.
5)Jack King.
6)Hardie Gramatky.
7)Earl Duvall.
Seven creartors for only five stories? Why was this place in the comic strips
department of Disney unwanted? How did Floyd Gottfredson ended up doing this
job for years if he thought it ewas only temporary?
Any answers?

Hey, guys...

>> So, did [Don] invent the name Della /did you find it
>> somewhere in American comic books /did you just take
>
>Exactly. The name "Dumbella" sounds very stupid, so he
>decided to rename her to "Della".

Actually, Don didn't come up with the name Della.
HDL appeared in comics before they appeared in cartoons. In their
first comic strip appearance (1937), it's Donald's sister "Della" who is
mentioned as being the boys' mother.
When a cartoon came out in 1938 with the same idea, now the mother
was named Dumbella, presumably because someone thought this was funny
("dumbbell" = an idiot).
I don't think the names exclude each other. Her name is Della, and
as a boy, Donald- never known for his subtlety- could jokingly have called
her Dumbella.

Maybe that Barks' stories do all play in the 1950's.
Don Rosa's chapter 12 of Lo$ is maybe the first story after the nephews
have been sent to their uncle. It plays on Christmas 1947, so Hewey,
Dewey and Louie are about seven years old. This story plays before
W.H.A.D.A.L.O.T.T.A.J.A.R.G.O.N., which shows the young HD&L getting
members of the Junior Woodchucks. It plays shortly after Lo$ 12 because
they already know Scrooge but don't seem to be too happy having to live
with Donald now. All the other stories (except the Lo$ chapters) seem to
play after 1947, I think at the beginning of the 1950's, where the three
nephews are about eleven or twelve years old. Because they always have
the same age in Barks' stories it seems as if all his stories play
around this date. They of course would be teenagers or twens in the
stories at the end of the 50's and beginning of the 60's and would still
visit kindergarten in the stories from the 40's.
So all their adventures seem to play in a time span of just two or three
years.

There are hand full of old comic strips which were reprinted in Greece. In
one of them Donald Duck asks Daisy Duck to cook for him.Daisy furiously
refuses and leaves. But later thinking she has hurt Donald's feelings she
returns to find Donald along with a female Duck dressed in Mexican clothing
who is promising to cook for him.The strip ends up as Daisy and the other
female Duck cook for Donald, antagonising on whose going to contribute more
in the cooking while Donald is on the couch smiling.I think this Duck is
Donna. Is it the strip YD 51-08-07 Daisy Duck meets Donna Duck you mentioned
in the Inducks?By the way who does Donald think he is?

Someone mentioned Black Pete and Mickey Mouse as being Mortal enemies. Are
they?I have seen stories in which one of the two has the opportunity to kill
the other one but they don't.Mickey thinks that it is not honorable and Pete
that holding Mickey prisoner is a prize he won.In "The Mystery of Tapiocus
VI" of 1956 by Romano Scarpa he has Mickey all tied up.They call each other
"old man" and then we have an interesting piece of dialog.Mickey says that
he knows Pete would never kill an unarmed man.And Pete answers Mickey knows
well how sensitive he is.He takes a sword and offers Mickey one.He says that
he prefers to kill him in battle. He wins the battle and is ready to behead
Mickey when Mickey is saved etc, etc. The important think is that according to
this stories they can face each other in battle and even kill each other but
not in cold blood, they have a certain respect for their opponent and know
each other well.(Why don't we have more stories like that?Pete is at his
best appearance I know of).
The deadlier enemy of Mickey is The Phantom Blot.He is always one step
ahaid of him setting deadly traps all the way and having absolutely no
respect for the "foolish" Mouse.

In his first appearance on 1939's "Mickey Mouse outwits the Phantom
Blot"(sadly unpublished in Greece) the Blot is said to be working as a
spy.Is it explained who does he serve? When does he reappear?Later, starting
from Scarpa's stories, he is an indepented criminal searching for wealth. Is
it explained why he stopped being a spy or if he ever stopped?A daughter of
him,Phantom Brat, appears. When did he have her?Is she wearing a suit like her
father's?Is she to be his heir? There are a hand full of stories where Mickey
Mouse and the Phantom Blot face Phantom Blot's impersonators.Has he ever
used an impersonator of himself instead of facing him as a rival? The Phantom
Blot of the series Mickey Mystery is a criminal mastermind never captured by
Mickey Mouse and the police. He is deadlier, more inteligent and far richer
and more capable than his regular version. In the storie "Oil for One,And One
For Oil!"(D 92033)he uses his control of an Oil Company to take over
Mouseton's economy. When his pan is ruined he says he lost just a small part
of his money and he can take over another city. This Blot never reveals his
face.Is he the same as Gottfredson/Scarpa's Blot?
The Phantom Blot is a character I am interested in but there are many
questions about his life and only a few answers.Any ideas?

Paperinik is a rather popular version of Donald Duck in Greece. In fact
Almanako magazine reprints only stories of him and Arizona Goof for the last
four years. Some information says there are newer versions of Paperinik in
Italy edited in the magazines Paperinik New Adventures and PK2.Is he still
the same character who changed his style or have they revised his
origins?Does Scrooge McDuck appear in the stories of the newer versions?
