Since I know many of you have been waiting for this, I quote myself from Don's official Facebook page:
Okay, guys ... I was waiting for approval to give you the news, but since it's up for preorder on Amazon, I guess it's pretty out in the public now anyway... Yes, there WILL be an English language version of Don's complete works published by Fantagraphics starting in 2014.
Volume #1 of "The Don Rosa Library" is seemingly scheduled for a June 2014 release at the moment. Content wise it will be similar to the Scandinavian "Hall of Fame" edition rather than the "Don Rosa Collection" deluxe box set, so please don't count on Don's underground story "Return to Duckburg Place" or similar stuff to be included here. There will be, however, tons of bonus stuff that have never been seen before in US publications. Stay tuned for more info on this nice English language edition, and if you want you can already preorder it here:

Yusyusyusyusyusyusyusyusyus!
You have no idea how excited I am. I already have most of the stories. But still

Fantastic!

I don't know the content of the Scandinavian editions, but it is my sincerest hope that we'll at least get something like a a making-of page about each of the stories by Mr. Rosa, as seen in the previously collected 'The Life and Times' books put out by Gemstone. Updated, of course, for 2013... though I can always hope for the Gottfredson-level special features! It's a small hope, but a hope I have nonetheless.

I'm guessing this will be discussed in the press release/upcoming announcements, but I suppose I can ask here just out of speculative curiosity...

1. Will there be boxed sets available as there are for Gottfredson?
2. Will the appropriate covers be placed in front of the stories? That was one of the most glaring problems for me in the Barks collection.
3. Will we have the chance to see non-Rosa covers that he drew, perhaps as bonus features?
4. (I'm guessing the answer to at least one of these is no) If we are going complete, does that mean 'The Starstruck Duck', 'The Annual Speedskating Race of the Burg of Ducks', 'Gyro's Beagle Trap', and the missing page of 'The Quest for Kalevala' be made available in their appropriate volumes?
5. Does this mean we'll be seeing the coloring used in the European Deluxe editions?

Regarding #4: All of those (not including the speedskate story) were included in the HoF books, so it's pretty likely they will appear here, too.

Oh, I'm a happy person. A happy, happy, happy person.
Of the questions asked by folks here or on the Facebook page, the only one that really matters to me is coloring. Please, not the Scandinavian "Hall of Fame" coloring. Please, not the coloring of the Fantagraphics Barks books. Please, Susan Daigle-Leach as much as possible.
But I'm in for two complete sets in any case!
Apart from my own selfish glee (happy, happy, happy!), I am so glad that Rosa's work will get printed in a hardcover collection in his native language/country. We Americans as a group may be duck-ignorant and undeserving, but Rosa sure deserves to have his stories get the classy treatment in the language in which he wrote them.

YES PLEASE SUSAN DAIGLE-LEACH PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE.

Guys, here is the question. If I have like 3/4 or more of his stories should I still get these?

Having seen the European coloring runs produced for the limited edition runs, and Ms. Deagle-Leich's own comments regarding the difficulty of coloring his work, I hope that the European coloring remains. It was all approved by Mr. Rosa, every panel, exactly as he envisioned it. Why change it from that?
I do love her work in many areas, and this isn't a slam against her. I just don't see the point in her recoloring this collection.

I've always just preferred her coloring to Egmont's. Egmont's certainly isn't bad, and I would still be OK with it, but I would rather hers

I agree with every word of this. I am so absolutely thrilled about this project, and I can't wait. (And here's hoping they're gonna do more than 2 per year).

About colouring-- I wasn't really on board with Fanta's approach on the Barks stuff (especially in instances of preserving errors), but I've mostly warmed up to it. But Don's stuff demands the SDL touch methinks.

I see the posts about Egmont's colouring though-- can anyone point out some examples?

Well, there's the blond Gyro with a green hat, orange shirt and blue pants, in terms of Hall of Fame coloring I can do without. (I refer to Gyro in "Fir-Tree Fracas" in the Rosa Hall of Fame 1.) His clothes actually make him look like a skinny Beagle Boy, who in that same volume also wear orange shirts, blue pants *and* green hats! (See "Cash Flow," same volume.) The Beagles' hats are a reasonable blue on the book's cover, but an inexplicable green in the story. Inexplicable to me as an American, of course...perhaps some Europeans are used to Beagles' hats being green.

Actually, most of the colors have already been done by SDL for one of the Gladstone or Gemstone publications anyway, so I guess we'll see something along that lines. It will NOT be the regular Egmont coloring with bright golden coins, that's for sure. But as I say, I'll post updates on this and other matters as soon as more details become available.

Yes, no matter what he thinks of a blond Gyro, Rosa has certainly made it clear that he doesn't want all the coins in the bin colored gold in the European style, as they are in the Hall of Fame volumes. He wants believable American coinage, almost all silverish, with some copper and gold.

Thanks so much, Jano, for keeping us informed, today and in the future.

So is this the Scandinavian colouring, or the Egmont colouring proposed above?

I can handle green-hatted BBs as long as the shirts are orange/red. Blond Gyro weirds me out a bit, but that didn't stop me from grabbing one of those great Italian figures coloured the same way. :)

My main issue with the European colouring beyond character schemes is that it tends to be a lot more garish, and shall we say, cavalier in accuracy efforts. I doubt Don would sign off on this series if it were full of bright yellow money bins full of yellow-only money?

Which also has me wondering-- if someone will take the time to carefully render a nice dollar sign on the Bin in those stories where Don had to leave it blank for foreign currencies. (not that such a thing would make or break the project of course!)

Edit: oop, mostly irrelevant by new posts above!

This was done by Don himself, actually, for the recent Don Rosa Collection books, and I guess these pieces of line art will be reused for the new edition.

Amazing!
Thanks for the info Jano!
