Hi guys--just popping in to say thanks for the kind words regarding my coloring (thanks to Elaine for the heads up). I do appreciate it. Don't know whose coloring will be used; I've helped out here and there with the FG Barks books, supplying bits and bobs of art, but this is the first I've heard that they'll be doing a Rosa collection. I'm sure it will be a beauty. And if it is being colored anew, I send my best wishes to whomever is doing the job -- it's not for the faint of heart. ; )

Oh hey! Nice to see you around these parts. And the compliments on your coloring are certainly well-deserved.

I doubt they'll be pumping this out at a too-prohibitive frequency (2 a year?) or cost for most. Amazon will probably list around $20, and volume 1 is around 250 pages, which includes lots of new material on top of the definitive presentation of the stories themselves.
That's an damned bargain, honestly. Even at the $30 cover price. Seems like a no-brainer for a Rosa fan.

Hi, Susan! Welcome to DCF! And I believe I've said elsewhere--just to use the example of one story--how sad I was that the BOOM Rosa Treasury vol 1 couldn't use your coloring for Fir-Tree Fracas. (I know that was done for Gladstone I; maybe there's no color guide from that period?) Instead, it's the same coloring as in the Hall of Fame volume. Blond Gyro, dressed in Beagle Boy colors. Ugly colors for Donald's house: exterior dark gray, interior walls light gray with lavender curtains, yuck! Ugly shade of green for the tree. And they colored the glass ornaments as well as the light bulbs, so that the decorated tree looks like a triangular gumball machine. (On the other hand, I have a German printing of that story, where neither the ornaments nor the lights are colored--well, the lights are all light yellow when lit--so the decorated tree is monochromatic!)

I'll be doing an interview with Mr. Rosa to ask him about the specifics of the collection, where I'll be asking a number of the questions in this topic and more. Due to his busy schedule, I'm not sure when it will be released, but I'm actually in the middle of writing the questions right now.
There will also be discussion about the unofficial companion of his 'Life and Times' by Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen.

Disregard that last post... sort of. I will be speaking to him, but not until sometime in 2014 due to his schedule and the state they are in for pre-production (which is to say, not far enough to answer questions).
Still, pumped as all hell for the book.

Fantastic news. Love what Fantagraphics has done with the classics.
Would really like to see SDL get the coloring assignment. Her work has a warmth that really makes the pictures come alive. Coloring can either take a story to a higher level or can really be a distraction if done poorly.

My real wishlist for all this...
1. Unedited stories. Some of the stories had dialogue/art edits, like The Incredible Shrinking Tightwad and Buckaroo of the Badlands. Fantagraphics didn't do it to Barks and Gottfredfson, let's not do it here.
2. A consistent colorist and letterer. I'd prefer the European colorist, myself, because they were already approved for authorial intent, panel by panel, by him.
3. The covers placed before the stories.
4. Making of texts for every story, the way it was done for The Life and Times.
5. Truly, the better the bonus features, the better the collection. Interviews, drawings, essays... the closer to Gottfredson and the farther away from Barks' special features section, the better.

I just hope they won't split stories in parts. I had some Polish publication where they put long stories in one volume but they still had the "reminder" pages between the chapters and that's super annoying in my homble opinion...

I agree that we want the unbroken versions of the stories, but for completeness's sake, I'd also like to see the interstitial pages included as addenda.

Same for the splash panels. Delicious, delicious half page splash panels.

SO COOL

Yes!!! I'm so excited for this. I'm a 14-year-old whose grandpa collects Disney comics. The only comics I have are extra ones my grandpa bought when he thought they would have resell value at some point. But now that no one in the U.S. cares about them, he gave the extras to my family. Anyway, I'm excited to finally be able to get a collection of Don Rosa's stories!

Welcome, Gooey! You're going to have a great time here. Lots and lots of info from some very knowledgeable members. :-)

I have about half of Rosa's output in trade and single issues, but this is something I've been hoping to see for a while now. Really looking forward to it filling up a bookshelf next to my Barks Fantagraphics collection. My oldest son quite enjoys Rosa as well so it will give us something to read together.
