The colour on Son of the Sun looks pretty good. Not oversaturated or overdetailed. :)

The book hit comic shops this week!
I haven't put my copy down much since I got it. All the hats off to Fantagraphics, and the top-notch team working on this project. Flawless production quality. It's like a jacuzzi for my eyebulbs.

So this collection is actually in comic stores already? The first book won't be out on Amazon until a month to this day (October 4th), so If I could get this now at a local comic shop (there's one comic shop I've been to before in town not to far where from where I life) I would be really happy. Either that or I'll wait for the box set to come out.
Speaking of which, did just the first book come out in comic shops or did the box set come out as well?

Just the first volume. The box set won't show up until volume 2 is released, probably sometime in November (the 16th, according to Amazon. So probably a bit earlier than that for comic shops, which seems to be the standard for all the Duck stuff from them so far...)

Thanks! Since thats the case, I'll just wait for the box set to come out in comic stores. Since Amazon has said box set coming out on November 16th, I expect in should be in comic stores some time by mid-October, a month earlier, which is the same amount of time between the Amazon release date of this First Don Rosa book, October 4th, and when it actually appeared in comic stores early this month.
I'd prefer the slipcase because not only does it save me money by getting two books for a good price, but I also like the collectible aspect of it. I already have the slipcase for Christmas on Bear Mountain and Christmas for Shacktown from the Carl Barks collection, and I plan to get the slipcase for Lost in the Andes and Trail of the Unicorn when it comes out by late-October.

I'm waiting for the boxed set with the first two volumes in it that I have ordered. It won't be too much longer. Yesterday, though, I popped into a comic store to check out the first volume. It looks FANTASTIC! The large size, beautiful coloring, and full of Don's comments, I can hardly wait to get mine. The Fantagraphics Carl Barks Library volumes were sitting near it. I really like them and have them all so far, but next to the Don Rosa Library they somehow seemed kind of dinky.

However, it really bugs me that the top seems to be cut off of this photo. Really disturbing to me =p

I was at a Barnes and Noble at my local mall with a friend earlier today and I found they had the first book of the Don Rosa Library. I took a gander (no pun intended) at one of the copys and all I can say is that, wow, I'm impressed!
First of all, I already saw the preview on Amazon and was quite impressed by the coloring, but in order to truly do the coloring justice, you need to see the physical copy. So yah, the colorings great. The colors seem all correct, the colors are bright but not to bright, and the shading is great as well. Second of all, I loved the Behind the Scenes stuff, though I won't spill the beans as too whats in store as its just that good! I also loved that the many covers Don Rosa drew were included, the covers themselves being really cool as well (I think my favorite was the on with Donald Duck as a Canadian Mountie).
Still, as cool as the book was, I didn't buy it, as I'm waiting for the two-book box set to come out, hopefully sometime next month. I bought the "The Old Castles Secret" from the Carl Barks Library instead, as well as a Marvel Deadpool book.
As for now, I can't wait for the boxset to come out. As for the new boxset cover art itself, I have to say it looks excellent. Also, I don't really have a problem with the top parts of the individual book cover art being cut off on said boxset cover art.
