Will these be a similar format to the Barks Library books? I am not familiar with their European counterparts.

This is what Jano wrote on the Danish forum:
The book will be in the same small format as the Barks books since Gary Groth wants to make it more mass market compatible. A larger sized edition would have needed to be sold at a higher price (at least that was the word in San Diego this July). The content will be very close to the Hall of Fame books, it's NOT an adaptation of the Don Rosa Collection book set.

Does anyone know if The Life and Times series will be included again in this complete collection? Thank you.

Quote from user: JanoAs with all Disney comics products, no royalties are allowed to be paid for the use of the any comic material. Don usually gets recompensed for the use of his texts and other stuff, though, as was the case with the Egmont editions.
In "Why I Quit", Don Rosa said that he trademarked his name, so he should also be getting royalties for the use of his name on the front cover, correct?

The trademark is not to make money off it, but to prevent his name from being used on unapproved publications (by publishers who refuse to ask for his input on text and color improvements and stuff). Since those don't represent the stories the way he intended them to be presented, they should not use his name on the cover (as a "Don Rosa" book that attracts attention with his name should show the comics as imagined by said "Don Rosa", obviously).

About the colors I really like the Egmont coloring of Rosa, but not the Egmont coloring of Barks. There I greatly prefer the Fantagraphics-touch.
Why? The thing is that both has the right feel for their time with such coloring. Rosa-stories MADE for Egmont and published with these colors in their first printing (which I read) should have the same coloring, and especially so when Don himself approved it! That is what is done by Fantagraphics for both creators and that is why, along with new translations, (gah!) the book-versions from Egmont in my native tongue does not appeal to me. I prefer the originals from the Norwegian Donald-magazine.
I'm also proficient enough in English to really enjoy the original language in the stories, so Fantagraphics has it all for me.

You should remember, though, that the colors as seen in the Hall of Fame series (which were later improved for the Don Rosa Collection) are NOT the "original" coloring as seen in the Egmont weeklies. The later ones only had some small changes but the older ones were originally presented in the awful pink-green-blue chewing gum pastel shades that all Egmont stories came in during the late 80s and early 90s. And no, those really should NOT have that coloring (and won't), thank goodness. 8-) If anything, they will have the corrected DRC colors.
As mentioned before, I guess the Fantagraphics coloring will be similar to the one used by Gladstome/Gemstone since this is closest to what Don originally had in mind. Even the improved DRC colors are still a compromise to some extent, and I guess this new edition will pay attention to not making any compromises at all.

I guess the kid I was in the 90-s didn't notice, I was not aware of a "gum-pastel-shade" in our weeklies!
No matter, I own the Hall of Fame-series, I'm satisfied with the coloring, if not the new translations. And those won't be an issue in the American collection :-)
So a coloring-improvement keeping the original feel for Rosa then? That sounds very much like what Fantagraphics did for Barks! I'm satisfied :-)

That sounds very good. I'm looking forward to the first book more every day.
Any announcement from Fantagraphics? I did find nothing on the website.

Now you're making me interested in seeing a Rosa story in those awful 1980s Egmont colors. That would look hideous indeed. :)

I´m very happy that Fantagraphics got the rights to publish Don Rosa books in english but I have to admit I´m a bit disappointed that they decided to group them with Barks releases.
I´d rather have 1 new book every 3 months than 2 new books every 6 months. It would be better time wise and money wise. There is probably a very good explanation why they should be released together (Christmas, most likely), but I still don´t like it. I´d rather wait less.

The June release date is tentative, so don't take it as iron clad.
They do have three Disney releases set right now, with (I'm assuming, in the case of the Rosa collection) two volumes every year per release, making a total of six books annually. If the Rosa collection actually starts in 2014.
I'm sure they're staggering their release schedule the way they believe will work best, but even if you can't buy it on launch, nothing's stopping you from waiting a bit to purchase it.
If I'm not totally mistaken, discounting The Starstruck Duck and the Speedskating story, the amount of comics to be printed here total 1527 pages - assuming the stories he wrote but didn't draw, drew but didn't write, are also included. That number doesn't tally any of the half-page recap panels or the full-page recaps.
So it's probable this collection would be about 7 volumes, assuming the 248 pagecount is consistent throughout the series. Even if all 248 pages were used for comics (and they won't be), it's still more than can fit in six volumes of that size, and there will likely be some bonus features. Even if it's just commentary and a cover gallery.
I confess, if they wanted to have an 8th book to complete a box set or something, I would be quite happy to have it be an appendix of special art. Posters, calendars, other covers and the like.
