The increased size certainly is fantastic news. And not just because it leaves a proper box set at the end of things, either.
So if The Crocodile Collector isn't in volume 1, and the pagecount on Amazon is correct (along with my math), that means at a maximum 150 pages of actual comics. Leaving some 50+ pages for other features in the volume, as Americans have seen in The Life and Times volumes?

I just got an email noting that that this set will be out this October and I anxiously await it
Also on a good note I see that Don Rosa will be at the Detroit Motorcity Comicon this Saturday so it will be great to see him again. Last time he did a poster sized drawing of Gyro Gearloose for me.

It looks as though the first volume will not be out until October, if Amazon is to be believed, so I'm guessing the box set will be a ways off.

Hello peeps... I'm confused about this collection... am I right in assuming this will have "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" in this set as well? I've been trying to get my hands on that book but I'm sorry I'm not paying almost 200 bucks for a comic book who's last print was only 4 years ago. I would like to know if this collection will have the comics that make up that book as well or if I'm just better off hunting down the individual comics.

I honestly did not know Donald Duck comics existed till a couple months ago. A band member from a band I liked though said Life and Times was his favorite book and even made a soundtrack for the comic... so I'm very curious to see whats in this series that makes it so compelling and great that a finish metal band member would be inspired by a cartoon duck lol. The curiosity is killing me. I did enjoy the Duck Tails tv show as a kid. Bought the Duck Tails nintendo game remake for the PS3 too having played the game as a kid on nintendo... but I digress...

Hey Aces. In brief, the new collection won't have The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, that came later in Don Rosa's career. If you really want to read that comic, I strongly suggest you take a look at some used book stores or comic book shops. But I do know you can get volume two at a reasonable price with the link below.

It's also, if I'm not mistaken, Holopainen's first Don Rosa story, and what made him a fan of Mr. Rosa's in the first place.
If you like older comics, and want to get some background on what inspired Don Rosa to create Duck stories of his own, I highly recommend Fantagraphics' "Only a Poor Old Man" and "Lost in the Andes", two books with stories by the creator of Uncle Scrooge (Carl Barks). "Only a Poor Old Man" in particular has stories that were in DuckTales, as well as some very big connections to The Life and Times. And again, the stories themselves are just great.

I don't think there are references to any Duck Tales episodes in The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Don Rosa doesn't even like Duck Tales although he does like Scrooge McDuck. The References are mostly based on Carl Barks stories.

He has a very odd thing about DuckTales. He did call it one of the best cartoons on the 80s, just not a good adaptation.
