My assumption would be that non-Gottfredson strips will appear as bonus material in the chronologically-corresponding volumes, but as I've said, I doubt that the series is going to go past 1955, in which case I wouldn't expect much in the way of post-'55 Gottfredson material to appear either.

Good deal in theory, but that "from us" kinda kills it for me--besides which, you can buy the set of both books from amazon for a few bucks less than just ONE book costs direct from Fantagraphics.

The article in WDC 318 indeed says that the Overstreet Price Guide claims the art is by Gottfredson and says "there is no disagreement among collectors on this".
In #38 of the Italian Gottfredson library (it/CAT 38), Alberto Becattini says the first page is by Gottfredson at least for pencil, and that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th page are by Bob Grant. I've changed the credits so as to follow Becattini... until we have more information.

My copy of the boxed set arrived today. The box itself has been damaged in the fab or on the way, but the books arrived save. Both issues are great - from print and paper quality to content reconditioning. That's what I call a collection! Now I have to start reading.. ;)

My understanding is that the Sunday strips are going to get their own volumes in the future. Though in general, I think they're substantially less interesting than the dailies.

I've read all the Sunday serials--unlike with the dailies, none of them are racially problematic, so they've all been reprinted by Gladstone, Gemstone, or Boom. The only one I really liked was "Hoppy the Kangaroo"--nicely reminiscent of the daily "Mickey unexpectedly gets an animal" stories. Some of them ("Rumplewatt the Giant," "The Robin Hood Adventure") are just flaky as hell, and not in an entertaining way; most of them, though, are just kinda limp, for my money. I think part of the reason it took me so long to learn to appreciate Gottfredson was because one of my first encounters with him was "The Case of the Vanishing Coats," which you might think would be a big hit for me, given my love of Donald, but, as it turned out, not so much.
Don't get me wrong; I would of course still be quite keen to see them all collected in companion volumes to the dailies.

I love the Robin Hood Adventure. It was one of my first Gottfredson-comic to read. And especially I like the gag pages. They are still funny despite their age.
