Yeah, b&w is more authentic. People get confused because they think of MM in terms of comic books, but that's not what this is at all. Imagine if the Peanuts collections were in color. Everyone would rightly call that bizarre. The MM strip is no different.

This is great news - all I've been waiting for for years.
But with the awfully ugly coloring in "Carl Barks Samlede Værker" in mind, I too, will be more than happy if the Gottfredson Library will be in black and white. If the strips shall be colored, it must be in the original newspaperscale (more gauce) certainly NOT "the more, the marrier"-concept of Egmont...

I couldn't stand yet another destruction of good artistery!

That was surely awful.

As of CBSV, I actually mean the first 5 books. We managed a flood of complaint letters to Egmont and they moderated the last 25 volumes.
Sorry Egmont, it was only 15% of the collected works that was (and still is) destroyed...

Of course, they shouldn´t spoil them (like they did with that Uncle Scrooge book, I agree)
but they can do it well, so why not?
If they would have the money (and the easy possibility) in the old days when they printed
the newspapers, they would have colored them, too.
As I wrote earlier: when the MM daily strips were originally published, they were printed in black and white -- so they were drawn with that in mind. That meant adding shadows and crosshatchings in a lot of places where colours otherwise would have added the wanted atmosphere to the panel. (Look at the Mickey strip currently featured at http://d23.disney.go.com/comics.html , for instance.) If you add colours to such drawings, often the results will look muddy. And the way that problem is usually solved by the editor is by going in and removing some shadows and crosshatchings from the artwork.

So you can either have the MM daily strips in black and white, have them look muddy... or have some of the artwork removed from the panels.

I prefer the black and white solution.

I was just comparing sizes of the "Peanuts" books and the
"Italian Gottfredson" series and the "Mickey Mouse in color":

Peanuts: 8" x 6,5" (very small)
Italian Gottfredson: 11" x 8,5"
Mickey Mouse in Color: 11,5" x 9,5"

I hope they will use at least one of the two bigger sizes, because Peanuts-size will definitely be
far too small for such gorgeous drawings!
And I´d really be glad if they´d print the Sundays, too - like in the Peanuts edition: 2 years of
daylies and sundays together. But last thing I heard they will not.
The idea of having supplementary material is also good!

I would definitely prefer a black and white edition. That's the "color" they were made for.
