Great news! Only one thing: according to the cover, the Sundays will be recolored. If so, why didn't they try to reproduce the original colors, like in Fantagraphics' Barks Library? Were they not available?
Ramapith
Don't worry, Dutch??just look at the Amazon description: "...meticulous recreation of the strips?? original color..." We're indeed reproducing the original colors, and those we've finished so far look great!
That cover mockup was the very first thing we designed, and we used a reprint version of the strip as a placeholder. If it doesn't look like the original at this stage, never fear.

Nice-lookin' book. Is it going to be bigger than the daily volumes, or is it just going to spread one Sunday strip over two pages?
Ramapith
As of right now, we're planning for the same size as the daily volumes. (See FGL Vol 1, page 120 for a sample Sunday strip reprinted at that size: they actually fit fine, with the 1932-34 strips being taller to fill out the whole page.)

Great to hear. Those 1930s newspaper colors look wonderful - if Inducks scans are to be believed.

And the release of this volume means that the next dailies will be postponed until later in 2013, right?
Debbie
Will this include all of the Sunday pages, or just the ones that were parts of a serialized story?
Lars Jensen
I notice the cover reads: "By Floyd Gottfredson".
Will Fantagraphics also be using the first Mickey Mouse Sunday strip, done by Earl Duvall?
Ramapith
Debbie: yes. Lars: in the interests of completeness, yes. (Same goes for occasional Sundays where inker Al Taliaferro appears to have taken a swing at the pencils, too.)

Can I get some clarification. Is this Sundays color release the next in the series ie: "Vol 5" of the current Gottfredson series, or is this something new and separate from the dailies?
Robb_K
It is called "Volume I". So, it looks like it is a series separate from The Dailies.
My question is whether or not the Sunday colour volumes will be also sold two volumes at a time in 2-volume cases? I would rather buy them that way, than have to purchase the cases separately and have them shipped separately.
David, can you tell us what the purchase options are? Will the Sundays have slipcases, too?
Ramapith
Rob, good news??the Sundays will have slipcases too, so the situation is just like the dailies: you can buy the books one at a time when first released (one in the summer, one at Christmastime), or wait till the second is released and buy them both in a two-volume case.
The two-volume Sunday series (it can only be two, because Gottfredson only drew enough for two!) will take the place of the dailies on the Floyd Gottfredson Library schedule next year. We presently plan to resume the dailies with Vol 5 in 2014.

... after half the forum will have passed away because of old age.

Well, okay. I suppose you can't expect good news without the corresponding bad news. It all balances. Somehow or other.

Would it have been better if they had postponed the Sunday strips until after all the daily strips had been collected?

It was apparent from the beginning that the complete series was going to take eight-ish years to be published, so if having the dailies postponed for one is gonna be long enough for us all to die off, we were pretty much screwed from the start.

So, if Volume I will contain 1932-1935, then Volume II would contain 1936-late 1938, plus a handful of Sundays he made after that. Shouldn't be enough to fill one book. Are you planning to publish miscellaneous Gottfredson to fill it up, or will it just be a thinner book?
