One thing I'm curious about is the way the fourth and fifth volumes will split up the stories. So far, the books have managed to include almost exactly two years' worth of strips per volume without having to continue a story from one volume to the next. I calculate that Volume Three (High Noon at Inferno Gulch) will contain all the stories from The Captive Castaways (began January 10, 1934) through The Pirate Submarine (ended January 4, 1936).
Volume Four will presumably begin with Oscar the Ostrich (started January 6, 1936)--but where will it end? Monarch of Medioka ends on February 5, 1938, so the fourth volume will either have to include about a month's worth more strips than the first three volumes, split Medioka between the fourth and fifth volumes, or end Volume Four with "In Search of Jungle Treasure" (which ended August 7, 1937) and make Volume Four shorter than the first three volumes. It will be interesting to see what strategy Fantagraphics adopts (I favor the first one, myself).

That's actually our plan as of now. Vol 4 will finish off with "Monarch of Medioka." (We're working hard on that volume now, by the way??and in the meantime, Vol 3 comes ever-closer to the shops!)

Forgive my gushing, but these are the best Mickey Mouse newspaper strip reprint books I've read. I first read Gottfredson's work through Gladstone's newsstand comics, and later the Abbeville Press Mickey Mouse Best Comics volume and the first issue of "The Uncensored Mouse". The first one I remember reading is "House of the Seven Haunts" (a.k.a "Mickey Mouse and the Seven Ghosts" in Gladstone's comic book issues), so seeing it again will be a treat.
