"Best Of" collections like Yoe's Bud Sagendorf Popeye book and BOOM's Disney Classics (Christmas, Valentines, Mickey and Donald) collections are good for casual/lapsed readers to get a taste of a series, so I wouldn't discount them altogether.

It's time for my 4th Semi-Annual Praise on the New Volume of Fantagraphics' Floyd Gottfredson Library.
I just got Volume 4, I glanced through it, and it's even more amazing than I imagined! I thought that surely Floyd had reached his artistic limit by 1935, but I was proven wrong. I'm really looking forward to reading the fourth book, especially "The Monarch of Medioka". (Which, BTW, I used to confuse with Scarpa's "The Mystery of Tapiocus VII", but not anymore.) But as usual, I'm 2 years behind on my reading, now at "Bobo the Elephant".
Reading bits and pieces of Volume 4, I was wondering if. I never thought I'd say this, but Floyd Gottfredson may be even better than Carl Barks at making Disney comics. Any comments on this?

They were both so good at their craft that it would be difficult to say one was better at creating comic continuation stories than the other. They were both at the pinnacle of their fields (Comic strip adventure continuation stories and comic book epic adventure stories and comic book short comedy stories.

I read Walt Disney's Comics and Stories 567 (from 1991) a while back, and look what I found:

Wow, is that letters page amazing, looking back! (And those 64-page issues of <i>WDC&S</i> in the latter days of Disney Comics WERE packed with gems. I've always felt they were overlooked, coming in the wake of the resent provoked by the "Implosion".)
Looking at that letter ... David eventually took charge and made it happen himself, eh? Kudos to him. (I mean, I consder Fantagraphics' Gottfredson Library a veritable MIRACLE -- never thought I'd see such a project realized ...)

This topic is about the Fantagraphics series, but I just want to inform that an exact reprint of the american publication was published in Greece, with the only notable difference being the language (Greek instead of English). :D

Roger, it's just the same as the Floyd Gottfredson Library we have over here. Don't worry about missing anything.

I hope the delays in production and publication of the Fantographics series will soon be over. I have ordered the next Mickey Mouse and Barks volumes, as well as the Walt Kelly Pogo Comic Books volumes, and they've all been delayed multiple months.
