On the "Barks and Rosa" forum I heard that a new
Disney comic was being published in the USA. It has no
ducks or mice.

And for some other reason, the artist was listed as Ntini. Regardless of
how his name is spelled, I found his art some of the worst I've ever seen.
The characters were so distorted and disfigured that they were only
recognizable by the color of their clothes!
The story itself must have been pretty good, possibly hilarious, but
the awful art completely ruined it for me. :(
Yes, I understand that the Italians have developed a style that is
different from the "classical" American and Egmont styles, but this is
too much. Don't they use model sheets in Italy, specifying the general
look of the characters? Or is it that characters may look like anything,
as long as they are called Donald, Fethry, etc.?

Bigger scans of Rosa's drawings can be found on my website:

They are scans from the program book of the "EC reunion 2000" dinner in San
Diego (that's where the drawings were auctioned).
I also have colour photocopies of the original drawings, but they are too
large to put under a scanner.

It's the adaptation of Atlantis to the Comic Book, edition by Dark House,
cover by Mike Mignola, wrriten adaptation by Greg Ehrbar, ink by Sonia
Matrone and colors of Matteo de Benedittis. You can see the cover and this

I'm very happy that Claudio Sciarrone has a comic in the US, even if it's only
the "novelization" (comicazation? :-) of a movie. He's one of my favourites.
I hope my comic book will get it in a few days... how weird, I've never bought
a Dark Horse comic in my whole life and now, on the 6th of June, come this and
another DH one, a non-disney comic I'm curious about ("Joss Whedon's Fray",
Joss Whedon being the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

I'm very happy that Claudio Sciarrone has a comic in the US, even if it's only

Yep, that's what I meant. I was referring to the "style" of
story-telling. A style which comparred to LoS is wilder and more free
IMO. This is why I also made a comparison to Don's earlier stories, and
this is actually why I like it so much.

photo albums in the beginning of the story, but that's just to get
started. The core of the story is an "independant" black comedy.

about, for us poor non-Scandinavians who have to wait much longer to see a

I am sorry that you see it this way. Those "new" Italian artists (not
only Intini) but also for example Mastantuono, Celoni and Lavoradori
have added something unique to Disney comics IMO.
Like any other viewers of art, we should be open to impressions as if
we went to an art museum or likewise. Honestly, I find Barks plagiarism
(like we see it from some few Dutch artists) much more disturbing than
genuine original art.
I am sure you'll agree, that it shouldn't just all be forests, lakes
and rutting reindeers.

them. The first mailing list I joined was an academic one, dealing with the
literature of the Viet Nam War; it was so busy that I was literally swamped
by messages, around a hundred on a slow day and up to three hundred on a

or no interest in, and I desubscribed after a few weeks (also for a group of
academics, there were some incredibly stupid people involved). The next
mailing list I joined was almost the opposite; although there were over a

usually dormant but occassionally surges to life for a brief period.
Overall, I don't get much of a feeling for who is on the other end of

links. I know about attachments from mailing lists, but I either have to
dump them to conserve space on my home e-mail or dump them because of the
space limitations of my yahoo email.
I realize that my experiences with mailing lists are probably not typical or
not typical of all mailing lists, but they have helped convince me that I
would just as soon stick with clubs.
