A great book! I liked the sequel too, but it was not quite as good
("Solitaire Mystery" or something like that...)

I don't remember any obvious cases, but often characters are reading
comic books themselves (Donald reads Mickey, or vice versa)
Sometimes characters are speaking to the reader like they'd know we are
here. I remember some story by Rosa where Scrooge says to the reader
"What are YOU looking at?!" or something similar.

Hi,
While we are at it: I have always wondered why German Donaldists are so
reluctant to see Rockerduck (Klaas Klever in Germany) as a Barks creation.
Instead I always read something like "Klaas Klever is based on / inspired by
the guy in WDC 255" or "Scrooge's rival in WDC 255 is the role model for
Klaas Klever", etc. Why? Is it because, in Germany, he has a different name
in the Barks story (Emil Erpel), or because of the thick hair (might be a
toupee, of course), the only difference I'm able to spot?
BTW, what did he look like in the first Italian stories he appeared in? Same
hairstyle as in the Barks story? Out of memory, the first was drawn by
Bordini, and the second and third by Scarpa... Any scans available online of
his first Italian appearances?
Cheers,
Frank

<<Has there ever been a story where the ducks were aware that they were
cartoon characters?>>
I can only think of some instances where they look direct into the readers
face and/or adress some lines to him/her. (This seems to occur mostly at the
end of a story).
Another example my be Don Rosa's "Island at the edge of time" where Scrooge
is "on edge" (annoyed) himself by the invisible "storyteller" in the last
panel.
greetings,
Claudio

Well, Turner wrote most of his stories (the few that Karp wrote are
credited), which explains why Western turned Turner into a writer (even if it doesnt
explain why Western didnt let him draw more stories)
I do have 90% of the ACG & Standard-Pines humor comics indexed - probably
99%of the period Turner worked for them (roughly 1946-50) -- my indexes are
sparsed though

Everyone, I was being ironic.
No offense, but I think it's a lousy idea to index non-Disney stories in
INDUCKS, just because those particular stories were made by Carl Barks.
As another poster pointed out: Why not Don Rosa? And why not creators
such as Gil Turner and the others mentioned above? I *would* like to
know more about the non-Disney works of a lot of people -- including
Barks -- but integrating this kind of info into INDUCKS means it's no
longer a semi-scientific database about the Disney works of various
creators. Instead, it's on its way to become a collection of facts about
people the inducksers happen to like. (In my opinion, of course. And
again: No offense.)
And no, Barks shouldn't be treated as an exception. Trying to make Barks
the center of the Duck universe from whom everything good and true --
even to this day -- comes, means that we're essentially encapsulating
the Ducks into a 1942-1961 time pocket. Already, I've seen people claim
a certain story *can't* be true, because it contains a PC, and we all
know Barks never used those in his stories. No room for changes, no room
for improvements, no room for innovation. Sorry, but if that
"Barks=Truth" thinking becomes the rule, children will be totally unable
to relate to Duck comics in less than fifty years -- and that'll mean
the death of the Ducks! (Again: In my opinion.)
Barks was a great creator, but making special rules for him is a bad
idea. And, from what I've heard, I'm not sure he would've approved
either.
Why not simply include a link to a Carl Barks fan page instead and then
let that person index the non-Disney stuff?

I don't know if this counts, but in the film Fantasia (the old version)
there's a scene where the characters are aware of the sound track. And they
make some jokes about that.
In those days, the sound track actually looked like a track.

Thanks for guessing, because that's what I like about quote quizes.
Anyway, it's NOT the story I meant. But if "North of the Yukon" turns
out to contain exactly the same quote, you'll get twice the honour,
of course. (I have only roughly checked, but I didn't find it there.)
You got the idea behind the quote, though.
Scrooge is somewhere else.
Hint: "Then, you have no uncle!"
