Three days ago Don Rosa mentioned that he found Picsou on
a newstand in Bora Bora. I was also surprised to find Picsou
for sale here in America. A few months ago when I was in
San Francisco I saw a few in a bookstore that had a section
of foreign newspapers and magazines. If I had found one
with a Don Rosa story I would have bought it; but I already
have one Picsou without a Rosa story, and I didn't feel an
urge to get another.

>>>And since you are speaking of your next work, you could say if are you
thinking to make more chapters "B" of Lo$?.

Certainly!

>>>Personally, I would like to know
the "history" of the sister and nephews of Donald Duck. Is something that
you plan to elaborate?

I had planned on it for 15 years, but when I suggested it early last year,
the editor suddenly told me that the idea was forbidden. He said it would be
unexplainable, in any acceptable way, as to where the Nephews' parents had
been for so long and why they would abandon their children. The only reason,
other than that they were low-down good-fer-nuthins, would be that they were
dead... and I could not tell either sort of a story. But he also informed me
that, for the same reasons, I could never do my long-planned story about the
return of $crooge's sisters Hortense (Donald's mother) and Matilda. They,
too, were deemed dead by Egmont.
I argued at least for Matilda since she was nobody's mother and had every
right to disappear for 25-30 years if she wanted to. And I was granted
permission to tell the story of the return of Matilda McDuck, last seen by
$crooge in 1930. In fact, that's the story I'm working on right now.
However, I was told that this story could not involve her being married to
Ludwig Von Drake. I granted that -- nothing in my story will prove she is
not or was not married to LVD, and LVD would have been in the way in the
telling of this tale. Maybe I can use him if/when I do Matilda's second
appearance.
But the parents of the Nephews (Della Duck and ?) and Donald's parents
(Hortense and Quackmore) have been declared dead by Egmont. If I ever tell
their stories, it will need to be for another publisher (and then Egmont
will surely use it, anyway, as with the Panama Lo$ story and "The Coin" that
they rejected and I did for PICSOU).
As for another Lo$ tale, I think the next one might be another of my
favorites, set in the Yukon. And it might be the tale of what happened
during the month that $crooge kidnapped Goldie to White Agony Valley.
But... the snail's pace at which I produce these stories is disheartening. I
have so many tales to tell, but I work so slowly that I'll never have time
to tell them all.
Another thing I won't be able to do is answer any more questions for the
next 10 days while I'm in Italia.
Bye.

HI!
About Disneyville, sorry, but the name doesn't appear in the book i told (the
book about
donald's biography we told about)...
It appears in a french book from the same year, ie 1966 (i also have a 1969
edition of the
same book), called "Exp?dition Picsou"
See scans of both editions and of the french version of Ddonald's biography
(the scans
inside the books are the same than in the german publication, so i won't
show them)
another interresting detail from the biography book:
Donald receives a postcard from his sister (unnamed, he didn't even know he
had a
sister, as he left his mom as soon as he was hatched, and then the sister
seems to
have found him because he became a star thanks to Mickey) :

"CARTE POSTALE

Cher fr?re,
Tu recevras bient?t
la visite de tes chers neveux,
D?sir?, Oscar et Nestor.
Ta soeur

Monsieur Donald,
Hollywood,
Californie,
USA "

"POSTCARD
Dear brother,
You'll soon receive
your beloved nephews to visit you,
Huey, Dewey and Louie [ancient names].
Your sister.
[and so on...]"

Kriton:

"Leonard" is John's name as given at birth, but, according to him, as
long as he can remember his family have called him "John", and as far
as family, friends, associates and John himself are concerned, that's
his name.

On the other hand, John considers Leonard a perfectly good name in its
own right, and wouldn't mind at all if you called him that. He even
finds "this Clark guy" rather amusing.

and is a (free) translation from

>>> of the recording,a mail in offer entitling the purchaser to a free

CORD WILJES:
>>>The German edition only mentions the French edition as the copyright.

In French pm 294, a looooong article is published, about Donald's history
from 1932/1934 to 1994.
about the year 1979, we see a picture of the book "the life of Donald Duck,
this is my only authorized
biography (signed) d. duck". a little text about it it written : "Premi?re
r?trospective de la carri?re de Donald,
par Marcia Blitz, (Harmony Books). Une biographie plut?t fictive ?tait d?j?
apparue en 1941." = "First review
of Donald's career, by Marcia Blitz, (Harmony Books). A rather fictitious
biography already appeared in
1941."

So:
The 1994 book Dennis told us about is likely to be the same than the 1979
book, because of Donald's signature.
But it's different from the 1941 book, according to Picsou Magazine (but I
have still doubts, maybe it's a mistake from Picsou Magazine)
This makes at least two different biographies for Donald Duck.
About the 1966 French book, it's the same than the 1976 one for the
illustration but the german translation
is free.According to Cord, the French one is the original. The only author
quoted is "French text of C.
Ciccione", and the book is printed in Italy. My guesses are that there could
have been an italian source for
both books. Anyway, this book cannot be the same than the 1979 one, (and so,
neither than the 1994 one),
because it's mentionned as first publication by Picsou Magazine. It could be
the same than the 1941 one
BUT there is another problem: it includes Bridgitta!!! Bridgitta didn't
exist in 1941, and neither did scrooge!

so, there are 3 different biography books!!!

To them, we can add the 1960 Walt disney presents show "this is your life,
Donald Duck", presented by
Jiminy Cricket. (and i think there has been a comicbook adaptation of the
show by strobl)
the author of the 1966 book MUST have seen the show, as it also quotes
several different cartoons of
Donald, such as the one with guardian angels...
that's 5 different biographies! I don't include the several stories taking
place in Donald's youth! (Marco Rota, Strobl, Don Rosa,...)

Finally, I found this interresting page on the web :
http://home.swipnet.se/~w-47991/lod.htm
I like the idea of an interaction between the author's world and the
character's world...
But i don't agree with it :-)

Don Rosa once posted my theory about Donald Duck's life:

Maybe somebody who own some of the books quoted below could help us :-)

I think your guess may be correct. The German edition has been printed in Italy,
too: "Printed in Italy by New Interlitho S.P.A., Trezzano"
Especially the image of Mickey looks very Italian indeed:

Maybe someone on this list can identify the artist?

Does anyone have an English translation of the text in the Don Rosa

I wrote that the DD Extra cover for 'the Master of the Mississippi'
was based on an original Rosa-cover, but it turns out to be exactly
the other way round: Don Rosa's 'Mississippi'-covers for the
German album series and for Gladstone were based on Nadorp's
cover for the Dutch DD Extra!

Hi!
In super picsou g?ant #113, from january, 2003,(i bought it
today), a PK (paperinik/power duck) episode has been published (it must be #0 or #1, but i couldn't check, as
there are no story codes given, and the coa database is too
slow)!!! I was very happy to see this series published for
the first time in france, as i had heard about it on italian
french sites... I hope that it's not just an episode, and
that the whole series will be published in each issue of
spg!!!

What is the source for that "Power Duck" name? AFAIK, Paperinik has *only* been called Superduck and Duck Avenger in English.

Er... What exactly is an "Italian French site?"

Oddly enough, I read that the name "PK" is going to be used in the upcoming
American video-game based off the series. Actually, it might be out at the
time of this writing, but I don't know for sure.

If this is old news, then I shall go hide in a random closet and shut the
door...

>>>What is the source for that "Power Duck" name?
well, i guess it's the french translation of the name (it appears like this in the story). It's an interresting translation, because the letters are still PK in *P*owerduc*K*, as in *P*aperini*K*. I don't know if this word is a new word, from the translation, or if it already appeared in the new videogame "qui est PK?" (who is PK?)
btw, it's Powerduck, not Power Duck..

>>>Er... What exactly is an "Italian French site?"
Sorry, i mean *web*sites :-) I typed too fast :-)
