Is there a chance that it is Bob Moore's untitled W OS 353-01 (November 1951) ?
Inducks description seems to be the good one...

can anyone confirm this?

about grandpas, Rich tells in his pages that the grandpa duck from the cartoon "No Hunting" "made a appearance in a memory flashback of Grandma's in the Dell giant Vacation Parade #2 (July 1951)"

can anyone check this too?

Thanks,

Do you have an idea about how Gyro's thinking cap works?
Maybe the birds' droppings countain chemical substances which
favor thinking, but he hides them behind a cap so nobody
knows that birds actually often defecate on his head :-) If
it is so, then I prefer Barksian way for him to get an idea :
a good old hammer blow on the head :-)
Are you aware of other ways for Gyro to get an idea?

I made researches on INDUCKS, and the story seems to be "How Grandma Got It",
H21178, from DD2002-36:

If anyone could provide scans of the four characters, or at least check if
this is the good story, that'd be very nice of him...

I've read the above several times, and I don't even see what the question is
in your mind. Hortense & Quackmore first met in 1902, but still were not
engaged in 1906. Maybe they were not getting along in 1906, therefore
enabling me to make the cowboy jokes I wanted to make in Panama. Where in
that story did Quackmore need to be mentioned?
You're talking about a hotheaded, hard-to-get-along-with hellion... as well
as the mother of Donald, a guy who has likewise been going with Daisy and
still not engaged and still having fights after nearly 70 years! (Well, at
least 10-15 years in comic-strip-time.)
What's difficult to understand here?

Even if this is the case, it would still be pretty irresponsible, and not
something to promote.

True, but the point is that HD&L did not lose their parents in the war.
If you mean that their parents were caring for war orphans, why couldn't
they care for their own children as well?

I don't know what you mean with "a somewhat high price " but in Sweden
the rare ones are selling for at least 100 - 300 euro, (a little more in
dollars). That is if you can find someone willing to sell. The last I
saw was #3 1954 in G-VG sold for 1400 SEK. That will be about 150 euro.

Yes, for some people. Like working abroad for a few years. in Europe, South
America or where American companys were established. You find the same
situation where European companys where developing abroad or just maintaning
the British or Frensh lifestyle in the colonies.

Well, if it was customary, it was not seen as irresponsible.

No, I was more refering to that the situation could be similar, and
therefor mor acceptable.

I added some photographs of Don's visit to Naples to my website:

http://inducks.org/dd50/fotos/p03-01.html

(The photos were made by Ann Rosa on Dan Shane's digital camera.)
There are some photos of the Vesuvius trip, and some additional photos on the other pages.

I also added Don's report which he e-mailed here on DCML last week.

Hi,
first thing that comes into my mind is that Quakcmore and Hortensia are
both quite quick to anger. So probably their relationship wasn't too
steady and they had many fights and break-ups before finally getting
married. Maybe they were having a big fight and Hortensia went with
Scrooge to get away from him.

Not in the context of this discussion, which began with the suggestion
that HD&L's parents may have gone abroad to work on some worthy cause,
leaving their children behind.

Hi Gilles,

It's the right story and I've it in my possesion.
Grandma's aunt was Klazien. She searched, when she was
young, a job and finally came by the farm of the
family Trouwhart (Goodheart). The son of the owners of
that farm, Bertus falls in love with here. So the
other two persons in the comic are *not Klazien's
parents but of Bertus. Finally, at the end of the
story they get married but Bertus was lost after he
made with his friends a journey around the world. So,
because of Grandma was the closest relative, she got
the farm later.

I think I could provide you with scans of the four
persons, but the parents of Bertus Trouwhart don't
have a name.

Greetings Bernard

I don?t see any problem here. In part 10, Hortense and Quackmore met.
They went out on a few dates. Perhaps they were even serious about
each other. Since the engagement isn?t mentioned until part 11,
there?s no reason to assume they have any committment to each other in
part 10b. For all we know, they had only gone out once or twice by
then, and there?d be no reason to mention Quackmore at all.

My two cents,
Mark Wright
