First, both Donald Duck & Scrooge stories were drawn by Fecchi. The story "The
Deep" (D 99272) was published in the latest issue of Polish "Gigant poleca:"

Great news re Gemstone's planned line of "Pocket" books featuring long,
hitherto-unseen adventure stories. Aside from a few of the better issues of
the long-lamented (because long-lame) DISNEY ADVENTURES DIGEST, we have had
precious little of this sort of product in the States. I assume that a lot
of these stories will be of Italian origin; perhaps there will be some way
for European fans to suggest particularly worthy stories to Gemstone?? Let's
hope so.

I recall that Harvey Comics featuring Casper did publish a story with Casper
encounter with a square chicken. I dont recall it vividly but it';s likely
Casper stumbled upon a "square" world where everything is square. The square
chicken looked very much like Barks' works of Lost in Andes. As a kid, i
love reading Richie Rich and Casper, but now, i think Richie Rich's stories
are exaggerated and SMcD is a character with more dimensions than the
simple-minded little boy. Do any of DCMLians here know any other well-known
non-Disney comic characters that use some of Barks' plots?

go in just about any bizarre direction. The masters at the Duck Ending, in my
opinion, are Barks, Rosa, and Van Horn--but there are many European artists

I'll definitely be buying at least a few of them.

Well, it seems that anytime before 1980, American comics have rarely had
covers that had anything to do with the story at hand. I mean, look at the
Golden Age Barks covers--say, Uncle Scrooge #7? Where was the Seven Cities of
Cibola (sorry if I've spelled this incorrectly) cover art? So it's not
particularly unusual, although the Gladstone books always had covers
pertaining to the inside story. I especially liked some of the issues that
had Barks stories with covers actually pertaining to the story, by Rosa, Van
Horn, Jippes, etc.

Well, I personally think that the $7.95 price tag is a decent deal. American
comics are usually horribly overpriced. For instance, Dark Horse's "Astro
Boy" translations are roughly the same size, with just about thirty more
pages, for $9.99--in black and white!

That puzzled me, too. And there already exists a good cover for "The
Deep", drawn by the story's artist (Fecchi)! It was used in connection
with "The Deep"'s publication in Scandinavia.
Who knows, maybe Gemstone still has time to use Fecchi's cover, rather
than Van Horn's?! The (good) Van Horn cover could instead be used for
