Right. The only time I remember it being short for anything other than
"Donald" is when I was younger, and there was someone in my class named
"Donique."

He scared me.

Anyway, I should probably shut up right now, as I'm horribly off-topic, and
the name "Donique" is scary enough WITHOUT being horribly off-topic!

Makes sense to me. Personally, I think that William Van Horn is the best
artist suited for WDC&S since Barks himself. He seems to have a more
"gag"-like approach to drawing the Ducks, unlike Barks, who of course seems
to have more of an "adventure"-like approach to them.

I hope Gemstone realizes this over time, if they haven't already.

Whoops! I mean, Duckburg of the future is lived by ducks and those even-scary
"humans" with duck-bills only! :-)

Earlier this past week we found out about this cover's existence and
have looked into acquiring it. At present, however, we have no
production material in hand on this cover, so we can't say if we'll
ultimately be able to use it.

Hello there!

I'm indexing the brazilian Mulan stories...(I think there are 7 or 8). I
know this stories was published around the world, but I need help with the
credits, since this weren't printed into the brazilian editions.

For example, B 980005 "Boa Id?ia" (Mending The Whall) was published on USA
into Disney Adventures #8-09. The Inducks credits says:

Plot: Bob Foster
Story: Bob Foster
Art: Carson Van Osten
Ink: P. Borges, J. Anselmo

BUT, I think it has a mistake. As far as I know, Paulo Borges did the ART,
not the ink!

I think Jo?o Anselmo did the entire ink of the Mulan stories...at least I
know this story was colored by Alexandre Silva! I don't have any idea about
what Carson Van Osten really did on that one! Maybe the rough layout?

Any help?

Fernando! :-)

Hi all!

Lately here on DCML, there have been some discussions related to the use of
middle names in Duckburg. Such names are very seldom in Barks' and Rosa's
stories. I can think of only one example; John D. Rockerduck. The D probably
stands for "Davison" as in John D. Rockefeller, or it can be just a D, just
like the S in Harry S Truman. The reason for the lacking middle names in
Duckburg is probably the same reason Don Rosa avoided using the same name
for multiple characters in his family tree; it would be pointlessly
confusing ? remember this is about comics characters, not about real living
people.

However Scrooge can really call him self Scrooge D. McDuck even in Don
Rosa's universe as his mother's family name is O'Drake. I would guess that
such O's are removed when such family names are used as middle names.
Scrooge are thus IMO entitled to call himself: Scrooge Drake McDuck. However
I have never seen that name in use anywhere, so there is IMO no reason what
so ever to use it for us either.

Sigvald :-)

Ah! I knew they would never leave! I must have faith in my ever-scary
"humans" with duck-bills only! I'm proud of them!

Does anyone know when those characters started appearing in Barks' stories? I
seem to recall them being in later efforts, but they could have appeared
earlier than the early 60's stories I'm thinking of.

Just wondering.

I really like how that cover is colored, with the highlights on the Ducks.
Was the actual story inside colored that way also?

Actually there is nothing wrong with your mail program (at least in this
case). The list doesn't add Reply-To-header so your mailer can't
know that it is supposed to send the message to the whole list as
a default.

I thought the story was quite ordinary. However, it was strangely a bit
interesting even when it was mainly put together from standardized
duck story parts. The monster was nice.

The stories in this first book probably aren't very special*) so remember
not to expect to see the best of European stories - or even European
pocket stories - right away. Hopefully the next book has a good
Flemming Andersen story in it.

*) I don't remember "Panicking Pachyderm" but based on the
description it sounds like one of those not-so-good Mickey stories.

>Scrooge? A PC?!

:-) In Finnish version it was probably supposed to be a Mac, since the
company that manufactured it was called Omenankka (AppleDuck).

No.

On second thoughts

1. There is no nead for a middle name. Lots of people (and ducks) don't have
middle names. There were even an US president ho didn?t have a middle name.
I think he used N for middle initial (N=nothing).

2. As I recall it Mc, Mac and O? means "the son of". Here in Scandinavia the
most common familynames is based on a first name + son/sen
(Andersson/Andersen is the son of Anders). I have an ancestor with the name
of Mads Jensen (as seen on this list). His son was Jens Madsen.
I don?t know when these nametraditions in Scotland and Ireland changed but
here in Sweden it was during the 19th centyry. My conclusion is: McDuck must
mean the son of Duck and O?Drake mean the son of Drake, which makes Duck and
Drake not only familynames but also first names. If D stands for Duck,
Drake, Douglas or just D for

/Michael
