In the American coloring, Matilda is a blonde and Hortense has "dark red" or reddish brown hair (as in, the "fiery redhead" trope). Hortense's hair looks redder to me in my book than it does in AzureBlue's scan--Tightwad's scan is more accurate for color. In the Danish printing (don't ask me how I came by a Danish L&T!), Hortense is the blonde and Matilda is the redhead. Not Ariel-bright-red, not American-Hortense-reddish-brown, but a lighter orangeish auburn, definitely in the "redhead" camp.
In any case, no matter whose coloring you're looking at, Matilda has bangs all her life, a modified flip when younger and a bun when old.

Wow, I forgot about this one... I did this drawing years ago for a friend who moved to Scotland. In oryginal version there was a photo of him siting in the middle but for the sake of privacy I replace it with my own character named Ziomal...
