Speaking of new publications, a 14-page story of mine, with finished drawings by Sander Gulien, has been published in this Thursday's Dutch Weekly. I hope to read comments on it by any Dutch members here, who might not have seen my reference to it on McDrake.NL.

I liked the story, nice to read and good building up to the end. And I liked the artwork by Sander Gulien. Sometimes people tell me my drawings are superior to those of Sander, but I have to disagree. Yes, sometimes his charactars' positions don't make sense, or are impossible even. But still he's got a smoothness in his work that really appeals to me, and sometimes reminds me of Barks. I still have a lot to learn, I mean, this is only the 7th comic page I've ever drawn. And in my opinion my inking doesn't even compare to his', let alone Carl Barks.
Fun fact; I searched ebay for the #356 Esterbrook Drawing Pen, Barks' weapon of chioce, and found them for only 4 dollars. These two panels were drawn using these pen nibs ;)

I agree that your inking is still much more inconsistent than Sander's. I'm impressed that you have done that inking with inking pens. It is much better than your earlier inking. I, too use fountain (spreading) inking pens. I do better with those than with a brush. It takes years to master both. I tend to lift up too much at times, and it causes "bleeding". I probably will grow too old, and get too "skaky" an arm and hand, before I master inking. I may have to be realistic, and just hope to be able to pencil my own Disney Comics stories before they stop being printed.

Your drawing style always reminds me of you as a third Heymans brother! Really, it looks a lot like them!

Quote from user: McDuck MenuA bit more.. This is sort of a practice run to begin drawing Ducks for Sanoma, the Dutch weekly publishers.
This probably won't be printed, so I don't think it matters if I post it here.. If it does, I'll probably hear from them :D

(Paper reads: Scrooge McDuck finds Baby!)
They should print that, because it's really good! :D

I messed up the inking in some places on this page. Oh well, better luck next time.

Looking good, Rob! If I may just have one little comment, I think his legs are a bit too long.
Here's another half page by me:

My guess is you'll sooner or later be drawing official Duck comics. I've certainly seen worse from, say, Ben Verhagen (you are from the Netherlands, aren't you?).

Can I tell, them McDuck Menu? If you don't want it, I'll delete or edit this post immediately.
Anyway. He has already been asked to draw 2 one-pagers and agreed, right?

Don't see why that should be a secret, so sure :P
When those two pages will be printed, I don't know, they accepted them. The thing is I needed a lot more practice in order to get more assignments for the Dutch weekly. And that practice is what I'm showing you guys here.
And I personally think Ben Verhagen's art was great, but that's probably a matter of opinion.
