few.... Killmotor Hill (with the Bin), the Cornelius Coot statue, Gyro's
shop. The publisher suggested a few others... "Seven Route Interchange"
(from Barks' "flipism" story), Barks' Old Demontooth Mountain, my McDuck
Tower... but then I flounder in thinking of a full dozen. I resist drawing
Donald's House because, even though I like the Money Bin to always be
consistent, I like to think Donald's house is always different, like he gets
evicted by fed-up landlords on a regular basis. And drawing "Daisy's house"
and "Gladstone's house" would be pointless and boring. I might add Old Fort
Duckburg which I once said was restored *near* Duckburg in the Black Forest.
That's still only 7, even if all those are acceptable, and I have my doubts
about McDuck Tower. But.... what are some other "famous Duckburg landmarks"?
Are there some more good ones in other old Barks stories?
Can anyone offer up a list of the 12 most famous (or 12, period!) Duckburg
landmarks?

You may be right. Come to think of it, Gyro's remark about the storm getting
fierce in the first panel of that page seems somewhat uncalled for. Maybe it
was preceded by a panel of Donald fighting his way against the wind. (Yes, I
noticed there is some rain visible in the background. And yes, I noticed
Barks was building up the storm pictorially on the preceding pages.
Nevertheless, I'm not sure he would have relied on the reader remembering
this after two pages playing mostly in-house, with hardly any storm.)
On the other hand, I tend to think that the editors would have prefered to
confine their cuts to a single place if possible. Otherwise it would have
meant too much extra work for the layouter. Remember the other 9-page WDC
story, The Madcap Mariner, where they seem to have omitted one complete page
without caring much for continuity. But I'm not 100 % sure of this, either.

For Harry & Steven:
U.S.A. Dell comic books' cover dates were almost always identical to the dates
listed in the indicia on inside pages. The few exceptions were (mainly) a
single month listed on the cover with a 2 or 3-month period listed in the
indicia (in which case, the single month was the first month of the indicia
period). In any case, these books appeared on the shelves of big city stores
and newsstands approximately 1.5 - 2 months earlier than the printed dates.
They appeared later on the shelves of stores in more remote locations (but
always arriving earlier than the printed date). I am not sure how early the
subscription books arrived (but, I believe it was not too different from the
time they arrived at the stores - perhaps slightly earlier?). I am sure that
Gary Leach or David, or Don, or another of our members more knowledgeable on
this subject can tell us how soon the subscription books arrived.
For Don, regarding additional Duckburg landmarks:

Soldiers used the tunnels for an escape route to the River.

I have been informed that the library of congress telnet site contains
publication dates in it's records... (and i now have lots of publication

I have been informed that the library of congress telnet site contains
publication dates in it's records... (and i now have lots of publication

I have now put the scans of "The Blueprints of The

By the way, do the date (4/5-1902) at the bottom of
the sheets mean May 4th as it would in Scandinavia or
do it mean April 5th?
I then have some comments about your Barkshomage-scans
which I hope will be helpful for future scans:
a) They are saved in JPG-format even though they don't
include more than 256 colours. A quick check showed
that they are using 182 and 189 unique colours. I
tried both JPG and GIF with my own versions and saved
more than 16% size with GIF. And since the JPG-format
also reduces the quality of the scan, it was all in
all a very poor choice of format.
An example of the opposite is that the only known scan
of "Gyro's Beagletrap" is saved as GIF. But that
happened many years ago.
b) The two scans are not in the exact same scale, and
the scan of the second part of the Blueprints seems to
have been done in a hurry. So I had to work for hours
to get presentable graphics for my site.
Anyway, as we Norwegians like to say it ? when the end
is well, everything is well. And so it is this time as
well!

I came up with one; I don't know if it's very valuable for a story though:
The HQ of the Junior Woodchucks. I guess places like the prison or the city
hall aren't really good. What about the place where Donald usually works in
(the margarine factory)? Is it a Barksian fact? There's also nature: a
forest or a park. But again, you need a great imagination (I'm sure Don has
it!) to make a non-boring story out of these.
