John C says <<I may be way off base here, but as a fan, it disturbs a bit to think that just b/c and editor thinks a turkey is funnier than a regular platter, the turkey appears.>>
You misread: It's just because an editor thinks a turkey is funner that a regular platter, that the turkey stays!
the artist misunderstood the discription and drew in a turkey platter. The editor thought it was funny, and rather than having the artist or another artist redraw the panel(s), kept it as is.
Now if the artist drew the turkey on purpose,
and the editor changed it, then the artist could be upset with the editor for tampering with "his" story....
as it is, this story is more like the 4th nephew appearances

Recently I watched the TV show "Wer wird Million?r?" which is one of these "1 Million prize" quiz shows which have popped up last
year in every country. The candidate had reached to 3rd to last last level so his answer was worth 250.000 Euro. And the question
was: "Who created the Marsupilami?" Well, if the answer is worth a quarter of a million maybe we should not assume that everybody
knows who Franquin is.
Frank Miller (of "The Dark Knight Returns" fame) once said that he could stand on any crowded place in the U.S. and scream at the
top of his lungs who he is and which comics he did, and only a handful of people might recognize him. He would rather yell "I wrote
the script to Robocop II" (which he did).
So in most countries (Germany included) comics are not yet part of mainstream culture and comics creators are rather unknown. We
comic fans often assume that "normal" ;-) people have to know something about comics. Well - they don't! Unbelievable as this may
seem I myself could not name more than two soccer/football-players. I suppose with this kind of knowledge I will be thrown out at
the 50 Euro question ;-)

Maybe I lost some irony or something???? I have some four letters words for
something and I dont know for who?
Who says that Franquin isnt important, dont know NOZIN' about comics... You
would say that JIJE isnt important? or his alumn Moebius? Uh???
C'mon... are two principal schools in Europe's comics. One related to Herge
and Jacobs (etc) and another related to Jije, Franquin and the Spirou hebdo.
Sorry if I not mention details... what can somebody say that Franquin isnt
important??? Is a joke or something!!!! (grrrr)

Right! I have NEVER even heard about this JIJE.

Anyway, I grew up with comics from the Belgian/French
"school" with great stories by:
Gochinny, Uderzo, Morris, Charlier, Giraud, Hubinon,
Graton, Duchateau, Denayer, Vance, Paape, Greg and
Derib just to mention a few.

Well I think this whole discussion shows that there
are various opinions about what comics are
good/important and what comics which are not that
good/important. The German Top-100 list shows that. It
lacks "The Phantom" by Lee Falk which is one of the
most sold comics in Norway.

I think "comics are no longer a part of mainstream

sales are dropping even in Norway.

I'll be passing through England on my way to Greece next week and I was
wondering if anyone out there knows of any quality Duck comics being
published in England today. Greece carries KOMIX and I look forward to that
(since I read Greek). But I was wondering if there is a comparable Duck
magazine in England that I may look for that might carry quality stories.
Thanks for your help.

Of course, that was a stupid assumption... But did you notice that Franquin
used the "Mickey as cactus" detail several years before you?
Well, no, because I did not make my point clear, sorry. I was not influenced
by Franquin because I grew up in America and I never saw his work. In fact,
even now, I don't know who he is or what he did or does. I'm that ignorant.

You missed half of the important Belgian comics, and then you conclude that
they are (for *that* reason) not important.
I don't think we need to continue the discussion about this when you're on
such a silly level.
This is not about Disney comics anyway.

(And the correct spelling is Goscinny.)

Silly? Do you also think it's silly when Americans
here use basically the same arguments about European
Disney characters like Fethry Duck?

I've certainly learnt my lesson: Never mention a non-Disney artist within
this list!!! (Although Franquin, of course, had a connection with Disney,
who bought his Marsupilami for a cheap TV series and eventually ruined it
forever...)

Nope. You most likely missed *all* the comics produced for Dupuis. And the
reason for that is probably that Tempo did not want to (or was not able to)
buy the rights to publish Dupuis comics. This has nothing to do with their
importance.

Bucky's Wedding

Now that The INDUCKS is up again, I have perused the Bucky Bug stories list to
try to find "Bucky's Wedding", for Ronald Alphin. Unfortunately, there was no
story with that title. I do have the U.S. Abbeville Press reprint of the 10
Jan, 1932 - 13 June, 1934 Bucky Bug "Silly Symphonies" King Features newspaper
strips. None of those Sunday strips included "Bucky's Wedding". They ended
with Bucky leaving home to seek adventure. I do not remember the other Bucky
Bug strips by Taliaferrom (which followed); but only the last one "Bucky
Returns to Junkville", includes June Bug. That is the only possibility among
the Taliaferro strips. The US "Silly Symphonies" giant comics of the 1950s did
not include a wedding story. The list of Dutch Bucky Bug stories and USA
stories by Buettner and the other 1940s WDC printings also looks very
complete. I cannot remember Bucky getting married in any of the comic book
stories. But, I seem to remember him marrying June Bug at the end of
the "Silly Symphonies" strip run. Can any of our newspaper strip expert
members answer that question? There was no listing for a reprinting of that
strip in any book or comic book.
Thanks for any help. Rob

Wow - Disney bashing on the Disney mailing list :o)
Are there other non-Disney characters which appeared in Disney comics or
movies? I rememember some pages of William Van Horn's creator owned "Nervous
Rex" (http://www.nervousrex.de) in the U.S. digest sized "Disney
Adventures". Do you know more examples?
