OT first - this is the strangest world cup I've not followed - and
that's what I
am, not following it. But at least I wonder who will win...

In 1997 the danish weekly had a collecting series with a map of
dcukburg and
such landmarks and a series of pages in the mag with places to see. -
The following is inspired from that, and if this project you talk about
it going to be published in our weekly it will knock out the referred
map from 1997. IMO that is.
The Duckburg Christmas Tree (Shown in some Christmas story to be very
high - eg. with a paris-wheel to help it be higher than the church)
The lighttower at the coast - shown in one tenpager to safe ships from
being destroyed
The Hotel Baldorf Snobboria (danish typical allegori over Walldorf
Astoria - placed in Duckburg by Barks in the Stribed Ruby Story)
The Skunk Oil Factory (Especially in Egmontland it's become a known
fact that Donmald often works there - it's a Barks-fact from one story
too - the one's where Donald does become a famous musician)
How about statues of Scrooge and Gyro?
The harbour
The beach
The club house for JW

Many people suggested places like the beach, harbor or such. But these are
not specifically Duckburg places, so the story made out of these wouldn't be
interesting. Places like Grandma Duck's farm or the beagle boys' hideout are
good for a story, but already used in so many occasions either by Don or
other artist's. It's really hard to mension much more significant landmarks
than the one's mensioned by Don. Is Notreduck located in Duckburg? If so (I
can't remember), it breaks the Barks-Rosa "realism" a bit.

I don't know if it's been mentioned so far: The statue of Cornelius Coot,
Founder of Duckburg. There may be more than one statue, including the ones
erected by Scrooge and the Maharajah in their famous contest. By the way,
several non-Barks stories list others as founders of Duckburg, one story
even stating that Scrooge McDuck was the founder!

If it took place after "A Christmas for Shacktown" it
seems that Scrooge muste have had some extra money in

Wow!!! Lots of great landmark drawing ideas from our members! Even with my
massive list, I forgot several really important ones. Lucky that several other
members didn't forget them! Don can not help to reach 10 great choices now!
My going through the process of thinking of the landmarks brought up some
trivia that is peculiar (and surprising that I have never seen it mentioned on
the list). Question: What is the Calisota State Mascot??? Answer: First -
The VAMPIRE Later(?): The bending or sagging spire atop one of Duckburg's tall
buildings (Limpspire State Building).
So...., we must assume that Calisota was once called the Vampire State. Barks
did us a kindness to not show the very common grizzly occurances of these eerie
monsters (the undead) sucking the blood of and killing their prey (Duckburg's
citizens!!! It is amazing that he portrayed the inhabitants as being happy so
often. Even the fact that they could be able to concentrate on their everyday
activities, while being hounded and endangered every night is absolutely
amazing. We must also assume that the Vampires' reign of terror on this "Hell
on Earth" (or whatever planet Duckburg is or was on) ended at some time; when
the Calisota Mascot was changed to the Limp Spire.
This brings to mind the State Flag of Calisota. Did the first one have 3 ears
of maize (corn), snowy mountaintops and Cornelius Coot's face on it? Then,
after the Reign of Terror of the bloodthirsty Vampires started the Flag was
changed to a rendering of a "cute" VAMPIRE??? Then, when that HORRIBLE ERA
subsided, the Flag was changed again to portray a skyscraper with a bent
steeple??? - Something to think about - EH??? - Rob

Timo said on this mailing list that the latest volume of the Taliaferro daily strips collection was the 1951 one (it is in the Inducks database). A similar book, from Norway I think, contains the strips from 1951.
My question is: has any later volume in Norway (or another country) been published? I was told that the Norwegian were a bit in advance compared to Finland, so maybe the 1952 volume has already been published there? Also, does a fifth volume of the Italian BIG books for the Taliaferro daily strips exist? (it would cover 1951-1953)?

kept by talking ducks and dogs.
Underground Duckburg, I'd like to see more of it.
I remember seeing twin towers in the skyline of
Duckburg, I'm not sure thought. Well at least they
were bashed with a colossal piggie bank so they may
have vanished from the skyline. And I believe that
twin towers aren't that funny nowadays.
