Hi
I just read D 99295: "Donald Duck - Heavy Traffic", and noticed a very
funny, little detail on page 10 panel 8, in which Barks has got his own
boulevard, entitled "Barks Boulevard" in the Danish version. Is there anyone
who can tell me if there are other translation that includes this detail ?
According to I.N.D.U.C.Ks it hasn't been published in USA yet.
Best wishes,
Mads

Strange: on page 10 page 8 of the Swedish translation there's no mention of
any address at all, but both "Carls Gata" [sic!] and "Barks V?g" [sic! x 2]
are mentioned on page 7 panel 8.

Oh, sure. In the Norwegian translation of this story, Donald reported an
accident at the Barks Boulevard / Gottfredson Street crossroad.

Hi all
Olaf asks about the danish translators' Barks Boulevard.
It's apperaed 3 times. In this story, and in two Mickey Mystery pokcets
from the 90'es.
I remember when i first read the exact story and noticed this nice hommage
to the old master. - i wrote to Niels, our translator of the weekly adn
asked about this. That's when i learned he had used it two times before.
I just discovered the bad idea at having the digest version. This topic
hadn't rewached my mailbox so i found it on groups.google.com...

Hi Gilles!
I can only help you with the following stories:

and Chendi :

by Scarpa :

Arpagon De' Paperoni. However, note that this story (as well as the previous
one) is S-coded, which means that the original plot was written by somebody
in the U.S.A. - so, it's not totally correct to see the Italian names as the
"original" ones...
>- "Paperino eroe di Duckburg", by Scarpa :
>http://coa.inducks.org/coa/c1/story.php/0/I+TL++683-A
>I need the ancestors' original names
Paperino, Ciccio, Gastone, Zio Paperone, Nonna Papera - they simply carry
the same name of the "regular" characters (actually, Donald refers to the
story hero as "Bisnonno Paperino", i.e., "Grand-grandfather Donald").

Thanks a lot, Armando, for this precious piece of information :-)

Well, I guess I will never be able to find the REAL original name, so this will be perfect, and as the French first name is Arpagon too, then "Arpagon McDuck" will be perfect.
Note that Scrooge's name in early French translation was once "Harpagon" :-)
>>>(actually, Donald refers to the story hero as "Bisnonno Paperino", i.e., "Grand-grandfather Donald").
Cool, in my tree, I had already took the character as Humperdnk's father, ie Donald's grea-grandpa, so that's one think I won't have to change in the tree :-)
>>>I'll try to provide [scans] to you over the weekend...
Thanks a lot, that's really nice of you
about Bottaro's characters, I think Italian names would be welcome, as I think I have just translations of the Greek names...
Thanks again,
Gilles

I understand the sics, i think. Cause I visited a street myself, near
stockholm this summer:
Carl Barks V?gen - Carl Barks Road. The name has it's origin in some
swedish poet called Carl Bark,
but if i recall correctly what i read in an old kurir from the swedish
donaldist society it had some role in the case of demonstrating for
renaming a street Carl Barks' Road. I believe when the donaldiusts found
this road, they gave up, having gained their goal for the demonstration.
So danish donaldists: any street we want to rename, or is their also a
Gottfredson-streeet near you? Does Rosevej count? How about Andrupsgade?
that's a road in my neighboor town - and in Duckburg in the danish
translations one of the soccerplayers are named that.
BTW Sorry to Olaf - I think it was Mads who started the thread?

Hi!
there exist a 8-part series by Cavazzano and Carpi entitled "Storia e gloria
della dinastia dei paperi", in which we discover the history of the Ducks
through the times.
1: nowaday, the Ducks find a treasure
2: 30bc, Egypt, main character is Cleoduck
3: 30bc, Rome, still the same characters
4: 1392, Scotland, main character is MacPaperon
5: 1492, Spain, main character is Paperin de la Scalogna
6: 1700's, Florida, main character is Scroogoner McDuck
7: 1861, Mississippi, main character is a Scrooge McDuck I
8: 1897, Klondike, main character is Scrooge McDuck Jr, Scrooge I's son, and
himself he gets a son, Scrooge McDuck III
Scrooge III has a treasure which travelled through all the series, he
certainly died and was a relative to Scrooge, who gets the treasure...
If someone has the story, that'd be nice if he can make a presentation of all
the duck characters (Scrooge, Donald, HDL and Rockerducks relatives),
especially for the episodes 6 to 8, and that'd be cool if I could get scans of these
characters for my tree...

Hi!
First I'd want to know if you are aware of other appearance of Pepito.
Then, three nephews of Rockerduck (whom Rich Bellacerra presented me as
George, Patrick and Simeon) appeared in at least twice Danish stories. Does anybody
know which one, and also, if their creator was inspired by Pepito while
creating them?

Hi!
Searching through INDUCKS, i found this 1968 Taliaferro/Karp strip :
http://coa.inducks.org/coa/c1/story.php/0/YD+68-09-23
its only known publication seems to be in the Brazilian Almanaque Disney #
134, from 1982
this would be interresting for me to see a scan of the strip, as relatives of
Donald appear in it, and :
- it's very rare in these years to find background Duck characters
- I'd like to include them in my Duck family tree, or at least to quote this
strip...

HI!
A while ago, Dim Ntikoutis told me about this story :
"Zio Paperone e l'oro di California", by Guido Martina and Francisco Bargad?

In it, we meet Scrooge's grandpa "Wasteful" McDuck (we all know that Scrooge
already
has a coal miner grandpa, Dingus/Titus McDuck, according to Strobl and Don
Rosa, but
he could be Scrooge great-grandpa), his nephews (Donald and HDL's
lookalikes), and
also John D. Rockerduck's grandfather, called John Rockerduck.
I'd like to learn more about them, and to see scans of them and their
original names.

PS: I hope this constant demand of original names and scans don't bother too
much

Okay. I'm curious what they will say. (Do you mean you have plans to
travel to The Netherlands on the short term?)

I think the multi-part versions are used because they are already
coloured when the Dutch editors buy them as story material from Egmont.
I've heard that the extra pages are used to give Rosa's stories some
moments of rest and recapitulation.
>> The Dutch editors have also used improper versions of Barks's stories
>> (like missing panels, or even pages).
> Does this make the whole thing better, if I may so ask?
No, but my point was that the Dutch editor isn't intentionally ignorant
towards Don Rosa's stories, as has for a long time been suggested here
on DCML. It's rather the opposite situation, because Don Rosa's stories
are faithfully published in albums, contrary to most other artists.
> Rosa is, maybe to say the most perhaps the heir - an apprentice who
> didn't meet the "wizard" untill 1998. -
What do you mean to say with this? "Don Rosa is the son of god, his only
son, and no one else will guide you to comic book heaven", or something
like that? I don't want to step into such a discussion. And why would you?
There are many, MANY "Barks heirs" who write great stories and draw great
art.

I think the Dutch translations of Barks's stories are rather good.
They not nescessarily 100% accurate to the original words, though.
Sometimes the Dutch translations are different because of artistic
reasons (making them more understandable, recognizable, or funnier,
for Dutch readers), but they also have been different because of
having to translate a foreign non-English source. The latter mostly
happened in the past.

I don't, but that wasn't my point.

What do you mean to say with this? Don Rosa is "The new Duckmaster"
because a homepage has been titled that way? I really don't see why
you seem to want to turn this subject into a "Barks heir" discussion.

I think the new covers are drawn to give Dutch publications a consistent
look and style. Different artists have different styles, and even these
individual styles change throughout the artists's careers. Using these
covers on principle would give the Dutch covers an inconsistent look,
and some of these covers are simply not attractive enough for the Dutch
market. For example, some of the later Gladstone covers would be too
empty and stiff for a Dutch publication.

Undoubtly, there will be people who think the same about this as you
(or me). There's no need to mention that, while defending/explaining
your opinion. Let those people stand up and speak for themselves.

> Does this make the whole thing better, if I may so ask?
No, but my point was that the Dutch editor isn't intentionally ignorant
towards Don Rosa's stories, as has for a long time been suggested here
on DCML. It's rather the opposite situation, because Don Rosa's stories
are faithfully published in albums, contrary to most other artists.
> Rosa is, maybe to say the most perhaps the heir - an apprentice who

What do you mean to say with this? "Don Rosa is the son of god, his only
son, and no one else will guide you to comic book heaven", or something
like that? I don't want to step into such a discussion. And why would you?
There are many, MANY "Barks heirs" who write great stories and draw great
art.

And why can't anyone else?
