I think "Wolf" should be considered as their real last names, but the rest
are nicknames anyway "Big" "Bad" Wolf has been nicknamed like that because he
was Big and Bad, while Li'l Bad Wolf was nicknamed like that because he's the
son of "Bad" Wolf, ie "Bad" Wolf Jr. The real name of the Big Bad Wolf is
"Ezekiel", and is also nicknamed "Zeke". We don't know for his son (though I think
it could be "Louie" for some reasons*)
I don't see what should be considered as strange, here...

Gilles

* the universe of Li'l Bad Wolf character has been very developped in French
stories, in the magazine "Pt'it Loup" (Li'l Wolf"), so French references are
definitely important for this character. In French, the name Loup/Lou is a
short for Louis, so his real name could be Louis...

My view about G. Blum is based upon his stories (I have read the one
published in DD&Co last year - and I even got the first half of it in Danish
from you, remember) and the way he treats already established "facts" lice
Ms. Quackfaster's first name. What do you think our friend Cathy would say
if his next move is to rename Glittering Goldie's last name from the
established "O'Gilt" into something a-la "McKilt"?

> From what I've read I'd say he has that respect.

Maybe in words, but IMO not that much in his works. And it seems that I am
not the only one. Daniel J. Neyer recently said that he basically agree with
me when it comes to G. Blum. If Blum wants to do modern stories set in the
21st century he should come up with his own ideas and not use Barks' name to
get attention. From what I have read on DCML before Blum uses vague ideas
from Barks as basis for his stories apparently in order to get attention.

This only strengthen my point of view...

OK I'll be happy to read those articles if we meet at the Christmas meeting
? if not just bring them with you the next time you visit me here in Norway.

A nice and IMO even correct name, AC. "Little Wolf" and "Big Wolf". In
Norwegian they are often called "Lille Ulv" and "Store Ulv". I guess that
the name "Little Bad Wolf" will always sound strange to me, but that's not a
big deal - right?

I just stated an opinion of mine, nothing more, nothing less. To indicate
that that statement was an opinion *not* some kind of fact I added IMO
(means: In My Opinion).

If you don't like to read other peoples opinions here then you have a
problem, you see this is actually a place in where people is intended to
state their opinions, whatever those may be.

No. This time most of the quarrelling has occurred because some people takes
my statements to the extreme. My opinion is much more balanced than most
people realizes. For instance I was insulted just because I used the word
"cult". I was not even asked what I meant by using that word before being
insulted.

I may not be THE, or at least not THE ONLY problem in this list (see above
to see what I mean).

I do, Daniel, I really do!

That's definitely not true.

That would not be true. Furthermore I think that much of the current
problems are caused by the current heated atmosphere here. Small sparks from
me seems to easily causing unwanted flame wars. In a friendlier atmosphere
such misunderstandings would be figured out and solved way before they could
end up in flame wars.

Hopefully this thread can be ended peacefully before it also ends up in a
flame war.

Um, my name it Katie, not Cathy. ;)

My reaction? I would be slightly annoyed, as that name is
slightly more well-known than "Emily" as Ms. Quackfaster's first
name, but I still wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Frankly, I
would just be thrilled that there was a new story featuring one
of my all-time favorite characters! :)

Did you get strips after you got busy, or is one of the dates a typo?

I, too, was collecting the strip as it was being published on-line by my
local newspaper (San Jose Mercury news), but I got busy in Januaury 2000
and typically, I would just use my browser to get the back issues, but
by the time I got around to it, the strip was discontinued and all back
issues were taken off the website. The last strip I ever got was Jan
14, 2002. Sadly. I am glad to hear it's returning.

And, so what? You (think you) don't stand alone? Yes, and then?
I thought you already learnt that using other list members's names
to validate your opinion, is an unwanted way of discussing here.

Let's convert it by filling in another innocent name. A name that will
sound familiar to you, so you hopefully and finally will understand how
*unreasonable* and *mistaken* you are about other creators:

"If (Rosa) wants to do (old-fashioned) stories set in the (1950s)
he should come up with his own ideas and not use Barks' name to get
attention. From what I have read on DCML before (Rosa) uses vague
ideas from Barks as basis for his stories apparently in order to
get attention."

See? Doesn't sound very nice and reasonable, does it?

(Well, what do we care! This is a public mailing list and every piece
of nonsense may be freely expressed by calling it an "opinion". Right?
And if someone complains, then it's because of the heated atmosphere
that *coincidentally* surrounds us, every time we pop up.)

And there are also a lot of other creators like Daan Jippes, William
Van Horn, Patrick Block, Romano Scarpa, etc., who are all yearning
for attention by using vague ideas from Barks. And I ask you, who
has to pay the bill for all their misguided almost-evil apocryphal
creations? Yes, the poor comic book collector!

Let's reprint The Carl Barks Library and (if only just for you) a
Don Rosa Library. Then we have all what we desire, so we can finally
close down the whole Disney comic book nonsense. That will learn
those attention-seeking creators and those bad editors! Well, their
only rescue would be that they promise to contact *you* first before
making a decision or a creation, so you can *warn* them what is right
and what is wrong wrong wrong. Would that make you happy, Sigvald?
If so, then I'd almost say it's worth it. Please, give me a break!

:-(

P.S. In case anyone is sleeping, or illiterate: There's a lot of crap
about creators and editors in this email. Don't start jumping on me
by trying to point out the obvious. I might explode.

Interesting, I didn't think of that. Could there be a connection
between Barks's story and the movie? Or has the idea been used
before?

Carl Barks was born in 1920 (IMO). In 1964, he submitted a story to
Western Publishing (IMO), to get a job as comic book artist (IMO).
The story was rejected (IMO) and so Barks decided to become a cowboy
(IMO) instead, and he and his horse lived happily ever after (IMO)
in the Sahara, south-west of Australia (IMO).

I just stated an opinion of mine, nothing more, nothing less.

No, most certainly *not* "whatever those may be".

Basically, you're just stating that you can do what you want, as
long as you decide it's an opinion. And if people don't like it,
they have a problem. Are you out of apologies, and is this your
next strategy?

Your statements *are* extreme.

It wasn't just the word "cult". There were many other words. And
notice that I was complaining about *another* subject you were
involved in, not the wicca one.

You sound so sweet when you put it this way, so innocent. The heated
atmosphere is mainly caused by your on-going bombing on this mailing
list.

Do I sound peacefully? I really don't care how it will end, Sigvald.
I'm way past that point. I just want to have this on-going problem
solved. That's my concern.

Hello Don.

I'm curious if there is any new information about "A letter from
Home". Do you have finished the story? And if so, do you already know
what's your next project?

Oh, and there is another question that's burning me the tongue. What
happened to the illustration project with Duckburgian sights?

Best regards,
Arne.

No, it doesn't look reasonable, because it isn't reasonable.

Fact is that Don Rosa's stories are marketed as just that: stories by "Don
Rosa". The G. Blum story published in DD&Co last year was marketed as some
kind of a new Barks-story which it IMO wasn't.

On the other hand - recently I visited AC Siveb?k and read "Somewhere in
Nowhere" - that was a great story which IMO rightfully deserve it's credits
to Barks - I wish that it would be published in Scandinavia soon.

"Horsing around in History" is another great Story that IMO deserve it's
credits to Barks. So are the handfull of stories which Dan Jippes has drawn
based upon sketches by Barks.

Did you get my point now?

First I am not out of apologies. I am always ready to apologize whenever
it's reguired. However recently (after I came back from Denmark)
I feel that I haven't done or said anything that really calls for an
apology. Furthermore a good friend who also reads DCML has told me in
private that there has been enough apologies - now it is a real improvement
in my style that is required.

This is pure generalizing and can't be taken to seriously. Fact is that my
statements are of varrying type.

Maybe so, but none of it was insulting or intended to be insulting towards
the "Wiccas".

True. But the atmosphere are a result of the wholeness, not just one
subject. I was just mentioning the other subject as an example.

Well at least some people seems to make me look like a problem here.

That's exactly what my intention is. But it's very difficult to stay calm
when I feel that I am under frequent "fire".

This is *not* true, at least not this time. I am *not* responsible for every
single harsh argument against me (Ref: the Wicca debate).

Well, I guess that you can help solving "this on-going problem" by not
taking this dispute to far.

Oooops! Typo (I've been doing that alot lately... mostly 'cause I am
trying to limit my on-line time as it is the only phone line in the house)..
Sorry! The date was Jan 14, 2000! The strip has Mickey, Minnie & Goofy
falling down a mountain and Mickey lands on Pete's back saying
"Something soft broke my fall."

Thanks for the catch!

I hope these old strips are published in bookform someday since I missed
many of them. I only started collecting the strips beginning with
MM051698 and ending wth MM011400. I don't believe I missed any
inbetween, but I don't know what happened before MM051698 or after
MM011400. *sigh*
