What I'd like to know is if these new editions will print the original versions of Voodoo Hoodoo, Land of the Totem Poles, Bongo on the Congo, Treasure of Marco Polo, and other Barks stories that were heavily censored in the Another Rainbow volumes and in Gladstone's comics. The following comment in the interview makes me think that maybe the originals will see the light of day this time:
"And then I??m going to get three or four separate pieces that just discuss the particular stories that are in each volume and give a little historical context to the stories."
Not that I really like lectures on historical context, but it would be great if all of Barks' stories finally were allowed to see print unaltered; I'd happily put up with said lectures in that case.

So we will not see the English-language version of Egmont's Carl Barks Collection, but a completely new collection with new accompanying texts and essays and a new old-style-orientated colouring. I wonder if it will really be able to re-popularise Barks in America, but at least with 25 Dollars per volume the price is much lower than that of the European editions. I look forward to it, and I will buy it, I guess. (A running time of 15 years is really a bit long as prospect, though ... :/)
I guess the colouring thing will be quite interesting, but since the question came up: I would have also liked to see a collection as actual scans from the original comic books--it really would be a nice thing to have Barks' work completely as a reproduction of the original American comic books in that way ...

But the time-line?
Wonder if I live that long?
But I'm thrilled of the fact that it finally comes...
It's almost time for a smilie, isn't it?

Hmmmm.....to sell my Carl Barks Library sets and jump on board a 15 year commitment to rebuy his work, or not to......
Though it would be awfully nice to feel up the closet space from all of those long boxes of comics.......

Thanks, Louis Lane :) I am so pleased about this news. However, I do wish that Fantagraphics would NOT do the 10% reduction. Is it really worth it, from a publisher's perspective regarding cost, to do such a thing??? Any responses to that question?
I wish that they would also release more books on a yearly basis but it appears that they have developed a successful strategy with such period releases in regards to the Peanuts books , which are truly fantastic and don't appear to be reduced in size.
I wonder what Boom's perspective is on the news of this release? How will this release affect their new campaign? Regardless of all, I will certainly enjoy having this collection on my book shelves.

Comic books are not "standard" book size (see link below). Perhaps Fantagraphics sees a benefit in making this a standard size.

EDIT: Gary Groth has posted a message stating the Barks books will be 7 x 10. This is standard comic book size.

Wow! Finally! That's great news! I have waited for this announcement since years!
The timeline is long, but the same publishing frequency like the Peanuts collection. It's not great, but I can live with that.
Anyway: :) :) :) :)

P.S.: It's great that they try to use the original color guide. I didn't like the colors used in Europe at all.

Don't get me wrong, but yet another Barks reprint? Don't you guys have the Carl Barks Library and the Carl Barks Library in Color? Not that I have all of those collections, but for some stories this might be the re-re-re-reprint that I have. Anyway, great that they're doing it again.
So that's going to be until about 2026, eh? How long would Gottfredson take?
I also hope they're going to reprint ALL Barks work. I've seen cases where the cover were left out, or the paintings. I think someone should do a all-Barks Library. So that's stories, covers, paintings, drawings... storyboards? Well, I guess that's not going to happen.

See my first post; I never tried to get the Carl Barks Library after I learned that some of the stories had been censored and revised. If I'm buying hardcover comic collections, I want the material to be uncensored. If I want reading copies, paper comics are just fine, but in my opinion hardbacks are for collecting purposes, and I don't see the point in collecting altered material. I do have a lot of the albums in the Carl Barks Library in Color series, but I didn't bother collecting the whole series, since in view of the alterations, it wasn't really a comprehensive one and thus no upgrade over my non-album copies of the Barks stories.

Also, the CBL in Color was hardly durable, and the original Another Rainbow set, while durable and attractive did have flaws. Oh yeah, and it's also been out of print for 20 years and certain sets routinely sell for over $600, making it hardly something that can even be considered.
I want to read and study Barks' work, not have a bunch of brittle paper comics in boxes. I have 8 sets of the Another Rainbow CBL, but I don't really want to shell out the $1000 to get the 2 that I still need. Plus, I like the color and format of this new series. The more I think about it, the more it seems like a no-brainer.

I think I read somewhere that Gottfredson will wrap up around 2017.

It will be number five in my shelf of high-class complete Barks libraries. And I'm still young--guess I'll have to buy everything what the Barks machine will throw out until 2050 or 2060. ;) (Haven't got the mother of all Barks libraries, Another Rainbow's Carl Barks Library, unfortunately.)
Well, that's Nietzsche's law of the eternal return in full operation. To paraphrase the 'Old Powderhead':
What, if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: 'This Barks as you now buy it and have bought it, you will have to buy once more and innumerable times more' ... Would you not throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse the demon who spoke thus? Or have you once experienced a tremendous moment when you would have answered him: 'You are a god and never have I heard anything more divine.'

With its additional volumes of the caricatures, storyboards, drawings, paintings and non-Disney comics, the Norwegian edition of the Carl Barks Collection really will be such an all-Barks Library! Lucky folks up there, I wish that material would be edited here, too.
