These boxed sets becoming available after you've already supported Fantagraphics and bought one of the books previously in the set is becoming very frustrating. I already have a duplicate of A CHRISTMAS FOR SHACKTOWN because I later also bought the nicely boxed set. Not to mention I already have many of the stories in some other form anyway. Now to get this new boxed set I'm going to have to buy LOST IN THE ANDES again. At this rate if the boxes continue my choices appear to either have to wait even longer to order so I can get everything in boxed sets, or probably eventually end up buying duplicates of half the series.

Since the boxes are released without (what seems to be) any regard to chronological order, which is how I want them on my bookshelf, I don't quite see the need for it myself. And obviously buying duplicates is just not something I have any plans to do. But for someone just getting in to the series, or say a kid, the reduced price and box are a nice way to start off. And good for presents, too.
And boy do we need more kids reading comics, believe me.

I'm really angry about this, IF they don't sell the boxes separately. And even if they do, those flimsy boxes are much more liable to be damaged when there is no book inside them. They had better make the boxes to these LATE sets available alone. Otherwise they are punishing their best customers, who are financing these projects with the pre-orders.

What's not clear is wether this is another special presentation, like the Christmas box set, or wether this is an ongoing way that they will present the series. As the Barks treatment of these box sets are out of character with the release method compared with all their other publications.

Yes. That is what I did to gt the Christmas gift box, and, I guess I will do that with this one as well, but it is tiresome and I resent this kind of treatment of the fans that make this possible. I suppose I'll be able to trade my extra off to a Danish friend, as I did the Christmas volume. But I wish Fantagraphics would make a plan to box ALL the volumes in 2-box sets, and also sell the boxes seperately, in case we missed them.

I don't like the way Fantagraphics handles the Carl Barks Library. They should have done it the same way they did it with The Peanuts and now Don Rosa: release the books in chronological order, one in spring, one in fall, release a box set of both books in fall.

I like the box sets because it's the only way to get a book in mint condition. And it's a good way to keep the books save at home. But the way the Carl Barks box sets are released I end up with several duplicates or no box sets.

Yes! This is what I've been waiting for! Now I'll finally start collecting these books.

It would be nice if Fantagraphics would just tell us what their future plan is for the Barks collection. Box releases verses individual books.
