Topic: Fantagraphics to Publish Barks Library in English

Quote from user: Patrick HanifinFantagraphics had indicated that when they printed the LOST IN THE ANDES volume again they would finally print the original unaltered comic version of Race to the South Seas. I wonder if this will appear in the new upcoming boxed set now or if the book will still be exactly the same as the other.
I'm afraid the ANDES volume in the boxed set will be our (current) second printing, which still has the partial-redrawn composite version of "South Seas" that we've published up until now.
We do plan to get the original "South Seas" into our third printing of ANDES, but this likely won't be until next year.

Please don't buy ANDES right now with the expectation of an all-original "South Seas"??you'll be disappointed.

(BTW: I say "we" in reference to Fantagraphics above, but I'm not personally involved with box set-related decisions, so I don't have answers for anyone on that topic.)

Thank you answering my question, Ramapith. It looks like with the Original ANDES, the box set I just ordered with another copy of it, and with a third printing next year including original "South Seas", I'm going to end up with a lot of copies. I'm very pleased to hear, though, that Fantagraphics will finally be printing the original "South Seas" and I will definitely want this.

I did own the original March of Comics issue once but it was so valuable and delicate with it's thin cover I really couldn't just kick back and enjoy it. It'll be fun comparing the versions and seeing exactly what the differences are. It's one of my favorite stories so it will be great to have a completely all Barks version.

I'm certainly not going to buy any of those boxsets. They look very nice but I don't think it's worth it the trouble. I'd consider buying them as an investment, since I'm sure they will be valuable in the future. My girlfriend says I should get the boxsets and give the spare titles to our kids in the future. I won't let them borrow my comics, that's for sure haha.
All I know is Fantagraphics is really after my money. 4 Duck books this year. I'm really happy, though. These and the EC Archives will make me go bankrupt, though. :P

By the way, I just noticed every Carl Barks Library book is available at Amazon.com except for the Uncle Scrooge one ("Only a Poor Old Man"). Thankfully I already have mine, because people are charging outrageous prices for this title.

I thought Fantagraphics is always making new prints?

Kids? Think grandkids. Just ask my grandpa. He ended up giving me the extra copy of MM in Color that he bought because my dad couldn't care less.

Although I'm more inclined to believe David Gerstein as to the future availability of printing 3 of the Andies volume as who ever posted didn't seem to be aware of a future difference in the next printing, but here is what fanta has to say about the boxes on the CBL facebook fanpage:
"The box set will most likely contain a new 3rd printing of Lost in the Andes. There is no difference in the content between printings. And we will produce box sets of more sequential pairs of volumes as that becomes feasible (as you know, we are publishing them out of sequence).

Well with that confirmation I'll just wait for the boxes now. Means only one new volume for me this year but i'll have the gottfredson and rosa boxes to hold me over.

Aren't volumes 5 and 6 both already available? There should be a box set for those too.

This comment doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that they are committed to bring out a full box set of ALL the books. Their attitude seems to be "..we'll see"

It's my best guess that they will only release one box a year, regardless of if they can do more or not; and the sequential set that could have come out last year was ignored to instead release the "xmas" set. Which who knows if they were even thinking about sequential sets last year. I'm just happy that they have finally started.

I personally wish they would release more at a time but I love their books and they are going to do what is profitable for them to keep making more and since no one else in the states is gonna do it I'll gladly reward them with my money for their efforts.

Thanks, Arild.
I didn't notice this topic, so I thought that no one didn't mention about this comic.

Every Fantagraphics Barks/Rosa book suddenly became unavailable at Amazon.com. You can't pre-order any of them.
"Out of print - Limited Availability".
Why is that? That's weird. It never happened before as far as I know.
