However, is there any reason nobody's mentioned Somewhere in Nowhere? Would you not consider that direct enough?

There seems to be this idea that if you can associate Barks' name with a story, it automatically equals gold, but I can't really go with that. There's no reason that just because a story is sorta based around a page-long summary by Barks that it's going to be a great story--and, more to the point, there's GREAT reason to believe that, whatever the result, it won't be a particularly Barksian story. Now, it happens to be that I do like "Somewhere in Nowhere" (the original version more than the remake), but, indeed, it doesn't seem all that Barksian to me, and I don't see any great need for it to be included in a definitive collection--though I guess if we want to add supplemental volumes consisting of nothing but "inspired by Barks" stories, that would be okay with me.
(I do think including just the page that Barks wrote would be a good idea, but as we've seen, these Fantagraphics books ain't so good about supplemental stuff.)

Well, there's no question in my mind that all stories he actually drew or wrote should be included. I'm only expressing skepticism about these "based on few paragraphs he wrote!" or "based on something he vaguely alluded to in an interview!" stories. To me, those aren't really Barks in any meaningful way, even if they're treated as though they were for marketing purposes. But, as I said, if it would make people happy to see them collected in later bonus volumes, fine. I would prefer they be kept separate from the "real" Barks material, though.

Fantagraphics has released a new set of pictures (can't figure out how to link them from my tablet, sorry) from vol.5 which includes the contents-page, and it does indeed feature the 17 stories (193 pages of comics)) from May-Dec 1947.
They list the 10-pager "Vacation Time" as "Ring Wrongs" which I suspect is because of the later story (probably vol.9) also called Vacation Time.

I can't share that optinion. Bear Mountain looks great to me. And you must keep in mind that the colors look even better on paper. There are much more harsh in the digital version.
The one-pager with Donald's car doesn't bother me. It looks historical to me. In the early days the color of Donald's car changed often - as well as Uncle Scrooge's coat.

Yeah, you can't judge the colors before you see them on paper. I wasn't very happy when I first saw pages from Lost in the Andes on the net, but in the book they look much better.
I too prefer the car and the coat red, but that is because I'm used to it, blue isn't a mistake, it is how it was in some of the comics.

I've done some page counting. If they keep up making the volumes around 200 pages of comics, there will be 20 volumes of Donald Duck, 9 of Uncle Scrooge, and Gyro alone has 250 pages as a title character. If they're to include Daisy, Grandma, Woodchucks and other late work, the series will end up with at least 32 volumes.

My apologies if I missed it when reading the thread, but has the release date for Trail of the Unicorn been set?
