Quote from user: Patrick HanifinIt pleases me they're going to start off with some of the most desirable stories. I hope they complete all 15 years of the series and I'm still around to buy them. However, if I die or lose interest, or the company goes out of business before they complete the whole project or raises their prices sky high, then at least if I hadn't collected them all I was able to enjoy my favorite stories.

I really do like the whole idea of the project and especially the $25 price. I do wish they wouldn't reduce the size, though, but it doesn't seem that bad and I'll still buy the series. I'm already thinking in 15 years, especially, as my vision gets worse, the larger the better.

Magnifying spectacles DO exist (for us elderly, far-sighted folks) for reading glasses. I use triple strength (3X image size) as regular reading glasses. I suppose you could try a larger image magnifying ratio.

Most of my grandparents and their brothers and sisters and my parents and their brothers and sisters have lived into their 90s and some of them past 100 years of age. My father just retired from his career at age 88. So, I expect to live past the 15 year project timeframe. I don't expect Fantagraphics to close up shop before then (at least, I hope not). If they do, I would hope that Disney would find another firm to finish the project. (I think physical books will still be printed by that time (at leasr\t art-related books)).

Can't wait for this. It'll look nice in my collection. Slight size reduction doesn't bother me.

In a new post Gary Groth says the books will be 7" x 10". That's okay for me.

I'm really exciting about this project and like the decision to try to match the old flat color.

Yeah the size is fine by me. Similar to BOOM's Scrooge companion, slightly smaller.

I'll be 71, when the last book comes!

I'll be 47. Farthest future, as I see it now. On the other side, I bought busily Barks albums already 15 years ago, having somehow the illusion that sometime soon after the year 2000 or so I would have my "definite" collection of the stuff with which I would be happy and satisfied until the end of my life. If someone would have told me then that I would be still buying continuously with 32 and no end in sight ...
Caught in the treadmill. Barks until death. That is my manifest destiny. Ha, wonderful!

I hear you. I'll be in my mid-40s by the time this project is complete.
I have two major hobbies. Disney comics and model railroading. Both are expensive and very time consuming endeavors.

I will be 77 or 78 years old when the project is complete. So, I won't have a great many years to enjoy the whole set.

Mid-forties for me too. How 'bout just FOUR volumes a year? Cut the time in half. Seems fair. Or better yet, one a WEEK! Starting NOW! We could all have complete sets by September!
Okay, okay; there's something to be said for the value of anticipation. This is an awful darned LOT of anticipation, though.

I'd like that a LOT better. I'd have them all by age 70.

That would be much better. And should Fantagraphics still give enough time for the coloring.
MustangRockstar
Yeah, I wish it were four per year.

So it's decided, then! We storm Fantagraphics' headquarters and present them with our demands!

I can just see the headlines now - Fanatical Donaldists take hostages, demand comics.

The nice thing about these books is they help ease the pain of some of the books that Gemstone had planned before their implosion.

That would be fun :)

I feel the same. BTW: Amazon Canada still lists Gemstones Barks collection: http://www.amazon.ca/Carl-Barks-Collection-Set/dp/1603600639/ It's still a great cover.
