I like the boxes because it's easier to store the books that way. It's easier to display a book outside of a bookshelf if you have a box for it. And it's pointless to have a box that only has one in it. Boxes of three, like the (90's? not sure) Carl Barks Library would have been fine too.

Fantagraphics is doing a 4 box set for the EC comics collection http://tinyurl.com/ot8mwb6 , which they assure me that they are going to be making the empty slipcases a separate purchase option for those that have already bought into the books individually.
Maybe there is some hope that they might provide slipcases for collectors of the Barks set down the track.
By the way that 4 box set is a nice cheap way to get into that series, especially at the pre-order price Amazon are offering.

Maybe if Fantagraphics ever reprints the original Barks version of Race to the South Seas like they've promised the old volume could be used to fill that half empty box next to the duplicate Christmas in Shacktown.

The answer is to order 15 sets of the Christmas box set, and therefore you will have enough slipcases to hold all the upcoming volumes (30?) neatly protected and presented... and plenty of Christmas presents for all your nephews, nieces, grand kids, neighbors kids with all those duplicate books. :)
