The Amazon description for next fall's Fantagraphics Barks volume, 'Trick or Treat', says the volume will include nineteen stories and references 'The Hypno Gun,' 'Omelette' and 'Some Heir Over the Rainbow', in addition to the title story. I think it's safe to say that 'Trick or Treat' will be the only long Barks story in this volume. He didn't do any long Donald adventures between 'Trick or Treat' and 'The Secret of Hondorica' two years later, and there are far more than 18 WDC&S ten-pagers in between the two.
Assuming 'Trick or Treat' is Volume 13, and this spring's 'Pixilated Parrot' is Volume 9, that means by this fall we'll have a near-complete reprint of Barks's 'golden age' - we'll just be missing Volume 10 which will likely include my all-time favorite 'In Old California.' Hopefully that one won't be far behind!

Patrick, does your third printing copy contain the original unedited version of "Race to the South Seas"? I remember Ramapith saying in an early-2014 post on here that that the second printing didn't have the original version but the third printing would. Just wanted to confirm before purchasing.

Thanks, Patrick--that's disappointing to hear. I hope Ramapith or someone else who is involved with Fantagraphics' Carl Barks Library will let us know on the forum as to when the restored version will be printed.

Being able to finally get the restored version of Race to the South Seas in the upcoming fourth printing is great news! I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

I think it's a safe bet that it will go into the fourth, but I'm not sure when that will be (yet!).

But shouldn't the book then be "2nd edition, first printing" instead of "fourth printing"?

I sure wish Fantagraphics would print the rest of their Carl Barks Library in the larger size like they're doing the Don Rosa Library. I bet they'd sell a lot more, too, because they would be so much better! If they'd go back and reprint all the previously released volumes in the larger size, too, I be more than happy to buy them all over again. Just my opinion...

I like oversized books... but I don't think Carl Barks' work would benefit from the presentation the way Rosa's has. Barks really worked with the size reduction in mind, and when I look at my Gladstone albums I enjoy the format... but I don't think it really does anything more for Barks' art.

I hear what you're saying Angilasman and MustangRockstar, but I'm sure I can remember Gary Groth saying that CB's artwork was reduced to 93% of the original comic size to fit in the smaller sized book. Being in the larger sized books can mean his work can be printed at the exact same size as it was in the original comics. And since Fantagraphics are colouring the art to match the original printings, why not have the size identical as well?
And yes, the extra space is ideal for Rosa's style.
