I think overall, this is a great volume. Doesn't so much take the place of the Another Rainbow library, but compliments it well. It's also, obviously, far more readable than the brittle paper comics I've been saving for years. Don't need those anymore!

I got my copy in New York City. It was really easy.Every book store had at least one copy. But it should come shrink-wrapped. It was impossible to get a copy without any damage. That's why I love the boxed sets.

The Beagle Boys's blue shirts don't look good to me. I'm used to them in orange, and I don't think this shade of blue fits them well.

They do look a bit peculiar by contemporary standards, but their shirts WERE blue in the original printing of "Only a Poor Old Man," so if we're trying to be as old-school as possible here...

This is a nice time period. Fantagraphics did a superb job with with their first volume. I'm very pleased and looking forward to the next one. There are a few things I would have possibly done differently but overall it's absolutely great!
I grew up with the Another Rainbow releases which I really liked but mostly everything they released that I wanted was so expensive. It was appreciated and ground breaking but cost so much it took a lot of the fun out of collecting for me. The 10 black and white bound library issues were $100 each. The first Always Another Rainbow Uncle Scrooge statue was $5000 (and delicate, too). Then if you wanted the library again in color that was another small fortune in volumes. The litho's were a lot as well. Then Disney released the bronzes at several thousand each and you even had to get to a convention to buy one or pay more on the secondary market.
I can't tell you what a pleasure it is for me to pick up this easy to hold book in color on Amazon for less than $20. Then buy the new hardbound Yoe Barks Big Book of Bears for a low price, too. Finally, getting Series 1 of the Dark Horse Scrooge figures for around $40 each with all the different characters. (I wish they'd done a better job on the second series of these, had done the Junior Woodchucks, or Glomgold, but I'm not complaining at all. I'm not a completest and I just buy what I like. The ones I don't like as well I don't have to have.) For several hundred dollars I've got a new collection going now of both Carl Barks' color stories with incisive articles and a whole bunch of well done Barks' figures. I'm really having fun again with this hobby and it's not costing me a million dollars where I'm sad I can't even afford to buy what I want. I'm in heaven!

I agree, too! Since I had the book in my own hands, I forgot all the small things I didn't like about it (while reading the previews). Great work!
I got it at an local book shop with no discount. But $25 is still a fair price for this book.

Heh, same here. Not a fan of the colouring approach at all, but darned if this book isn't a tremendous pleasure to read.

After all I have already so many essays by Geoffrey Blum in various Barks Libraries and Collections, and it's always good to hear another opinion where the light is thrown on the object from a different perspective.
