My theory on how they`ll publish Gyro, Daisy and everything else not labeled "Donald" or "Scrooge":
Gyro was mainly published alongside Uncle Scrooge. The all-Barks material (script and art) featuring these two also add up to a number of pages very close to 2000 pages (10 Scrooge-volumes).
The rest of the all-Barks stories not being Donald or Scrooge were published in WDC and in general the same places as Donald. It also adds up to 20 volumes.
Also, I think Fantagraphics realize that any volume not featuring Donald/Scrooge-titles would be very risky. Like M-K I think it would be disastrous for sales. Such a volume would span several other volumes periodically; those stories were relatively few and far between. In other words: not very chronological.
I feel disappointed that Fantagraphics chose The Pixilated Parrot to be the lead title of vol.9. I thought the obvious choice would be the absolutely brilliant Vacation Time, or if not that; The Magic Hourglass. Both are such iconic stories, Vacation Time even having its own Wikipedia entry. I`m also hoping, like dKenny, that vol.13 will be covered by Trick or Treat. In fact it would surprise me if it doesn`t.
Regarding later Donald-volumes only containing WDC ten-pagers if they, like now, are published chronologically, I`m not sure how I feel. That a longer adventure-story is needed for marketing might be right. Personally I would love such volumes, I consider the 10-pagers in volumes 5-8 my favourite Barks-stories, but is that the view of most readers? Doubtfully.

I'm just curious??? So many people here seem so familiar with all the stories I'm wondering why you are buying them again. I'll admit I am. Currently I have most (but not all) of the Gladstone Carl Barks Library in Color, lots of different comics and books, and so far all the Fantagraphics Carl Barks Library. I like the variety of the different formats and also enjoy the original type coloring of the Fantagraphics collection. How about you?

I buy them for several reasons:
I like that they are hardbound copies.
It's nice to have the stories in one easy to access collection.
I don't have to pay a large of sum of money to get an older, similar collection (hardbound but not in color, or soft bound in color).
I am collector and so it's part of my hobby.
I gives me a great excuse to re-read th stories, including more obscure titles.

I actually don't have a lot of his stories, so these volumes are new ground to me. While I do have a sizable collection of comics from the American Uncle Scrooge series, I was a kid when the Another Rainbow and Carl Barks Library in Color albums were released, and as such, I never could afford them. So although I have most of the Uncle Scrooge stories, when it comes to the 10-pagers and Four Color stories, I just have a random collection that were published in various Gladstone/Disney/Gemstone comics from the late 80's-2000's. Stories like Voodoo Hoodoo, Luck of the North, In Darkest Africa, etc. I've read for the first time through this series. So I'm really excited to get them.
Besides that, I also am looking ahead several years. I have three small kids, all of which love Disney. Once they're old enough to read the comics (and treat them with decent care), I want to pass on my comic collection to them, and this way I can still have the hardbound volumes to read without having to go through boxes of comics stacked in the corner of my office. Already I am taking these volumes and reading stories to my kids before bedtime every now and then. They love it! :)
So, that's why I'm collecting this series, and hoping that it covers the ENTIRE run of all of Barks' stories! :)

yes I was on wikipedia of Barks bibliography and counted about 100 Scrooge stories, not counting the one pagers. I always though half of Barks work was Scrooge but now I see there is much more Donald than I thought. Also personally I would love a separate book with just Gyro and friends I loved some of his stories, there was one when he invents something to get rid of snow on the stadium, dont know if its Barks story but loved it.

There should be 30 volumes altogether. If Scrooge gets 10 volumes, then Donald should get 20 or 20 less the number of "Duck Family" volumes (Gyro Gearloose, Daisy Duck's Diary, Grandma Duck's Farm Friends)-(possibly 2-3 volumes?)
