Amazon now lists Walt Disney's Donald Duck: "Lost in the Andes" as coming out on Nov 1st, 2011. It has a retail price of $24.99 and has 240 pages. As of yet there is no picture of what the book will look like.
I realize there is a distinct possibility that this publishing date may be delayed, but I think it would be really nice to have this first volume available for this Christmas.

If the book was released in December, it would be a VERY merry Christmas for all the Barks fans 'round the world.

The only problem is, that when the set is done, you're nearing 80. Will you make it?

I think I'll make it well into my nineties (if not 100), unless I get hit by a tram, die in an airplane crash, or get murdered by a Disney comic fan who doesn't like my stories.

My grandparents all lived well into their 90s, (maternal grandmother would have lived to 105 (easily)-she'd never been in hospital). She was still walking 3 miles a day at 97. She died at 97 after deliberately not eating for about a month. My father is 88 years old, and just quit working 6 months ago. He now plays golf 3 times per week. He is in great shape and health. He is tall and skinny. My mother died last year at 85. But she could have live well into her nineties if not to 100. She contracted a balance problem, and instead of trying to fight it and do the best she could, she decided to give up and just lie in bed for her last 8 years. She slept most of the time and got virtually no exercise. Her muscles turned to jelly.

I'll get the whole set, and have a good 20 more years to enjoy it. I'll be drawing my own final pencils on Disney stories by then (as well).

In that case you really are a Barksist - in every way! (If you know what I mean)

Yes, but even living until 100 is an accomplishment of Barksian proportions. It's something I probably can't. We'll see.

And: No I haven't ;)

Je wilt zeker absoluut nauwkeurig te zijn!
Okay, then, you have not-so-new, but also not acted-upon mail.

Will these be boxed, or just loose? Or both, like the Gottfredson Mickey Mouse?

I think (and hope) they will publish the books both ways.

Then, as with the Gottfredson, I'll have to wait for the boxed set, and hope the single-book sales don't discourage Fantagraphics.

Single books or boxed... hmm? I'm not sure which I'd prefer if there's a choice. I'm so happy to just have the Barks Library in English again in either form. Boxed sets are a little more hassel to take out but the books do stay cleaner.

In the black and white Barks Library the 30 books probably looked a lot better on the shelf than 30 individual books would have. It's fun thinking about this choice. What do some of you think?

My boxed Carl Barks Library books, and our studio's German Carl Barks Collection books are in better condition than they would be if they hadn't been boxed. I prefer having the boxes. I don't mind removing them to look at the books.

Having to choose between a nicely boxed collection and loose books, I'd prefer the boxed version everytime, no question. If both versions were already ready and finish here, the decision would be easy for me.
Judging from the situation now, it isn't so clear and easy, however. Thinking that I would have to wait one year or so longer for the first box than for the first book, and thinking of the large intervals that would be then between the different boxes within the large time of the collection will run. Being fed with lots of canapés in form of single books, the whole project looks a bit "nearer to earth" ...
