Tell you what I'm gonna do: I'm gonna see if my local library accepts book donations (seems likely, given economic conditions); if so, I'm gonna donate the initial, single volumes and buy the sets when they come out. Good way to promote Disney comics, if you can afford it.

Quote from user: Lars JensenQuote from user: Roger NorthI'm not sure Carl Barks had anything to do with the Newspaper gags. I could be wrong though.

Carl mentioned that he got an extra $5 for each gag plot he wrote for the Comic Strip Department. That extra $60 in 1938 was quite nice to get, considering that his salary wasn't all that good. That would probably be worth about $300 in today's US Dollars.
Too bad that Taliaferro didn't venture even into short stories for Donald, like those Gottfredson drew between the long adventures. I would guess that Barks might have submitted some storyboarded plots for such. The closest we get to that is a few "continuations for a week or two, that have one gag-a-day gags on a continuing theme.
As Barks' pre-Disney work and his unpublished plots and Junior Woodchucks plots were included in "The Carl Barks Collection". I wonder if those 12 Barks plots/gags and the Taliaferro strips were included? I don't remember seeing them in our German printing (nor the Danish). I don't have access to most of the volumes of the Danish one. And, I can't see our German volumes until I return to Munich.
Can anyone tell me whether or not those Taliaferro strips were included in the Scandinavian and German "Carl Barks Collections"?

Good idea. I think, I will do the same. I can't wait until spring/summer 2012 for the set.

I don't remember if they were all in the Barks Storyboard book or not.
(One of the "extra" volumes published separately.)
But I know there are several of Barks/Taliaferro dailies in it.

Thanks Joakim. You're just the fellow to ask this next question: Do you know if Barks' "plots" he sold for the Taliaferro strips were just hand-written sentences describing the gags, or if there were rough sketches along with the writing? I know that his paid gags for animation usually had sketches as well.

"Disney has been very cooperative with our presenting the unvarnished original comics, for both Mickey and the ducks!"
-Fantagraphics, when I asked if Barks would be presented uncensored.
We have a confirmation now! I'm a happy camper =D

GREAT NEWS! Will that be true for Gottfredson's Mickey series as well?

(every part is a different subject, don't get mixed up)
Wait, does that mean we'll finally get to see DD's Atom Bomb and Race to the South Seas in Barks' inks? :D The latter of which will be collected in the first volume, and the former in the last volume.
I'd like to see Barks' storyboards collected, so that I don't have to search for those Scandinavian extra volumes, which I partly can't even read!
(I think, while I'm on the subject of storyboards, that Barks had some (uncredited) involvement in "Mickey's Amateurs" (1937). Becuase the cartoon, especially one sequence (starting here at 4:33) just feels so much like Barks. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I'd like to know what someone who knows a bit more about these old cartoons think about this.)

The extra-book on Carl Barks' involvement in the cartoons, doesn't state that he had something to do with that gag - though very Barks'ish...
But then again, Donalds bad temper and angermanagement was a heritage he first got rid off much later.
As of "Atom bomb" and "Race" I think the missing link are the proofs that doesn't exist anymore, but hey, let's be optimistic!

They could just use scans of the original comic books, as was done in "The Collected Works of Carl Barks" published in Scandinavia and Germany.

GREAT NEWS! Will that be true for Gottfredson's Mickey series as well?
I didn't ask for Mickey's future status on that regard, and yet Fantagraphics went the extra mile and mentioned him in their answer, so I'd say chances of a fully uncensored Gottfredson's run are pretty darn good!
More news keep coming!
1)Fantagraphics has updated its website to include a webpage for first book released in the Carl Barks library, along with the option to pre-order it (US and Canada only).
Of interest is that, right now, Fantagraphics' page says the book will ship in October, whereas Amazon's still has the November 21 date. Supporting the theory that the book may be released earlier than expected, is the fact that Diamond previews' catalog showcased it on its October 2011 section. Let's hope this is true!
2) Speaking of Diamond previews' catalog, guess what's the Featured Item this time around? None other than Carl's book! To properly showcase it, they dedicated it a full-page spotlight, with some minor new info and our first look at two recolored pages from Lost In the Andes!. Also, it states that the book's cover (the one currently on Amazon) is not the final art. What's gonna happen then? Who knows, but for know, enjoy this!

Quote from user: fantagraphics.comBECAUSE OF OUR CONTRACT WITH THE LICENSOR THESE BOOKS CANNOT BE SOLD OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.
Funny that the Mickey Mouse books don't have this statement. I already know this from the Peanuts collection. Thank god, that the book stores and Amazon don't care.
Oh. I'm not quite sure if I like the colors. They are of cause better than the colors used in the European Barks collection, but they look a little bit loud or flashy. I hope this is only the PDF file or my display.

The coloring seems to be made really close to the first print:

Does someone have this panel from the European Barks collection?

Sorry for the bluishness (didn't have time for white-balancing!)
Seems there's not so many colors here on the cabin-wall, but is that any better?
