Real happy with the announcement, if admittedly a bit confused as to why they're having two Donald volumes back to back. Could have sworn they'd alternate between him and $crooge. Not complaining tho!

That may be because there will be more total "Donald Duck" volumes than "Uncle Scrooge" volumes. But. I'll never understand why they are divided between the two, in any case. Why aren't they just Carl Barks Duck Work presented in chronological order of their creation (as best can be ascertained)?

Since Fantagraphics is trying to release Carl Barks' most popular stories first to draw in the most customers, they may feel that The Old Castles' Secret is more popular than any the of the remaining Scrooge story.

Where do you think they are going to include the Four Color 178 issue, in Donald Duck or Uncle Scrooge book?

I suppose you are right, Joakim; probably it will be published in a Donald Duck volume, but I had doubts because it's the first appearance of Uncle Scrooge. Time will tell... :)

Personally I'm quite pleased with their release model. It's nice to be able to tell other folks to go check out some Barks, and to have something other than "Pirate Gold" available in stores.
I've also come across numerous positive blog reviews for this series since it started, from people new to Barks' work. It's a good way to create buzz for this series and to snag some new enthusiasts, rather than expecting anyone to wait dicketty-odd years for the likes of "The Golden Helmet" to see what the bigger fuss is about.
That's far more important to the longevity of this material's relevance, and place in the market, which is far more important to me than chronology anyway.
I've also come across numerous positive blog reviews for this series since it started, from people new to Barks' work. It's a good way to create buzz for this series and to snag some new enthusiasts, rather than expecting anyone to wait dicketty-odd years for the likes of "The Golden Helmet" to see what the bigger fuss is about.

"Pirate Gold" is a fun story. True it's not Barks at his best, but those early one-shots and ten-pagers are some of my personal favorites. "Lost on a Desert Island" and "Death Valley" weren't the best early Mickey Mouse stories, but I'm glad Fantagraphics started with them in their Gottfredson books rather than skipping to "The Phantom Blot" to start. Although I personally wouldn't have stuck the Desert Island sequence in the extras section, but at least it was included. I was half afraid it would have been dropped.

I have to agree that I'd have prefered the Library to be strictly chronological (going by publishing dates at the least) but I would be lying if I said I ain't enjoying these collections a great deal.

Does anyone know when Fantagraphics will be reprinting their first released volume of Donald Duck "Lost in the Andes"? My big question is will "Race to the South Seas!" in this reprinting be changed to the all Carl Barks' version that didn't make it in time for the first printing? I'd buy the book again to have that.
